Description

The Calibration and Facilities Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building utility systems and pharmaceutical production equipment, as well as performing calibrations, qualifications, and preventive maintenance (PM) with accurate GxP documentation. This role supports both the facility's operational needs and the calibration requirements for client and internal systems. The technician will collaborate with internal teams, external contractors, and clients, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols. The position may require up to 50% travel based on project and client needs.  NOTE: This position is night shift, 6PM-6AM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
    • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on building utility systems such as HVAC, steam boilers, chilled water, compressed air, clean steam, and water generation systems.
    • Maintain and repair pharmaceutical production equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
    • Conduct routine preventive maintenance (PM) on utility systems and production equipment to minimize downtime.
    • Serve as an on-call technician for emergency situations, available 24/7 as needed.
  • Calibration & Qualification:
    • Perform calibrations and qualifications for various instruments (e.g., pressure, temperature, humidity, CO2) following PCI and client-specific policies and GxP standards.
    • Complete all calibration and maintenance tasks on time, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Operate test equipment and ensure the availability of project supplies and equipment for calibration tasks.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate with outside contractors, team members, and various internal departments to ensure the efficient completion of maintenance and calibration activities.
    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication, excellent customer service, and timely resolution of issues.
    • Identify and escalate any risks related to equipment or safety, following proper protocols to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Accurately document work orders, maintenance activities, calibration results, and corrective actions within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
    • Complete weekly timesheets and expense reports with accurate labor and expense codes.
    • Maintain a clean and professional work area, ensuring safety and organization in both on-site and office environments.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Adhere to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and guidelines at all times.
    • Ensure that all work environments—both facility and calibration—are compliant with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.
    • Actively participate in safety programs, maintaining awareness of safety hazards and risks in the workplace.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and utility systems including HVAC, steam boilers, chilled water, compressed air, and water generation systems.
    • Proficient in performing calibrations and troubleshooting a range of instruments such as pressure, temperature, humidity, time, and CO2.
    • Familiarity with GxP documentation practices and calibration principles, including traceability and accuracy testing.
  • Tools & Systems:
    • Proficient with CMMS software for work order management, documentation, and reporting.
    • Skilled with pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation, including manual and computer-based control loops.
    • Familiar with general electrical safety procedures, panel knowledge, and safe work practices.
  • Communication & Problem Solving:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve equipment issues independently.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, contractors, and team members.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative in addressing maintenance and calibration needs.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to climb stairs, work at heights, and lift moderately heavy equipment.
    • Comfortable working in various environments, including client sites and industrial settings.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
    • Reliable, with a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and techniques.

Work Environment:

  • This position may require travel up to 50% for client projects or urgent facility needs.
  • The role requires flexibility to work on-call for emergencies or after-hours support as needed.

Required Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Trade School certifications are a plus.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical maintenance and utility operations experience; military experience is acceptable.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a GMP biopharmaceutical operation preferred.
