About the Role

Are you considering a change in your career? We have a rare opportunity for a Capital Project Engineer to join our WA Mining Capital Projects Team. In this role, you'll be a key part of our core mining operations, supporting both the Huntly and Willowdale sites. We've designed this position with a healthy work-life balance in mind, offering a family-friendly Monday to Friday roster and a paid leisure day off every four weeks so you can enjoy more of the things you love.

The role offers flexibility with your work location. We generally expect you to be based at the WA Mining HUB in Pinjarra two days a week, with two days on site, and scope to offer one day working from home. While your primary site will be Willowdale, you will also support Huntly. You'll join a collaborative, customer-focused team, and you'll have the chance to get involved in a huge range of projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Provide technical direction and leadership to ensure mining capital projects are well-planned from the start.

  • Lead the development of the most practical and effective solutions for a variety of project scenarios.

  • Oversee project planning and approvals, guiding projects through their initial stages.

  • Manage the full delivery, control, and closure of all approved projects.

  • Monitor, forecast, and report on the capital plan, ensuring financial health and transparency.

  • Ensure all projects strictly comply with project delivery and Alcoa's authorisation procedures.

Bring your advanced stakeholder management and interpersonal skills to this position. It provides you with an opportunity to gain exposure to key stakeholders within Alcoa and an insight into the entire bauxite mine operating process through a diverse range of work and projects

What you can bring to the role

  • An Engineering degree qualification, preferably in either mechanical, electrical or Structural/ Civil. Post Graduate Business or project management studies favourable.

  • Ideally you will have experience working on both mechanical and electrical projects

  • Previous experience in mining, construction or heavy industry

  • Ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of stakeholders through a range of techniques including in-person, conducting presentations and regular reporting.

  • A business improvement, customer focus perspective and an appreciation of engineering alliance relationship structures

  • Well-developed time management and organisational skills, providing you with the skills to manage multiple projects concurrently

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery.
