About the Role:

As the Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for providing support on various production equipment and supporting facilities.  You will use your mechanical and reliability experience and knowledge to perform daily troubleshooting, strategic improvements, problem investigation and mechanical design work. Provide advice and assistance to maintenance personnel to improve uptime and equipment reliability, while adhering to regulatory and Alcoa EHS requirements. Tasks are performed in a “hands on” setting which include, providing on-call response to restore flow and developing and implementing countermeasures to prevent problem recurrence. This role will be based at the Wagerup Refinery on a Monday to Friday roster.

Duties include

  • Initiating and/or implementing improvement projects including engineering solutions to eliminate safety and quality concerns, repetitive equipment failures and other major and minor issues.

  • Develop preventative/predictive programs/systems to improve process and equipment performance and reliability.

  • Create scopes of work for ad-hoc repairs and major overhauls.

  • Ensure compliance of project work with appropriate engineering standards.

  • Identifying and/or implementing new ideas and cost reduction opportunities as well as identifying and addressing obsolescence issues with existing equipment.

  • Support capital and expense projects with your mechanical engineering skillset and highlighting risks to progress.

  • Create, maintain, and update equipment files, drawings and documentation.

What you can bring to the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering with previous experience in maintenance, reliability, heavy industry or plant engineering highly regarded.

  • An understanding of reliability principles, risk management and continuous improvement.

  • The ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, crucial within our dynamic and diverse team environment.

  • Improvements to equipment management strategies with a focus on preventative maintenance and spares systems.

  • A sound track record in project completion, investigating and implementing solutions to address root cause.

  • An ability to prioritise a high workload and persevere through daily challenges.

  • Experience in pumps, calciners, horizontal pan filters and material handling/conveying will be advantageous.

  • Adequate knowledge in welding procedures and pressure equipment.
