Alcoa's WA Mining Operations are located within the traditional lands of the Noongar People, in the area managed by the  Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation.

The Noongar Liaison Officer will provide on-ground support in the co-ordination and management of cultural heritage assessments related to Alcoa's long and medium term mine plans.  and the successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Specialist to coordinate and deliver heritage field activities safely, while meeting project timeframes and creating a positive collaborative work environment to ensure the ongoing management of cultural heritage within Alcoa's WA mining operations.

This position can be offered as full time (Monday to Friday 8 hours per day) or part time/ job share 2 or 3 days per week 7.2 hours per day, with flexibility around start and finish times. 

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Alcoa on-ground participation with Traditional Owners, anthropologists and archaeologists for delivery of heritage surveys.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Traditional Owners.

  • Ensure all field work is conducted safely and complies with safety policy and procedures.

  • Monitor ground surveys including Traditional Owners.

  • Assist the Heritage Specialist in the coordination of heritage survey requirements.

  • Promote understanding of and respect for Noongar heritage, culture, attachment to land and contemporary issues in the wider community,

  • Contribute to the delivery of heritage protection and conservation programs including working with the Regional Corporation, land managers and communities to enhance understanding, compliance and voluntary ability to protect and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage.

  • Co-ordination and management of cultural heritage assessments to support Alcoa's exploration, long and medium term mine plans,

  • On ground support in relation Cultural Heritage matters including risk management, impact assessment, site protection, management, and celebration.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Strong self-management skills who is well organised.

  • Strong verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • A current Australian Driver's Licence and able to undertake 4x4 driving in bushland if required (or the ability to learn and gain this skill with support)

  • Ability to organise and coordinate work efficiently, to set priorities and to motivate others.

  • Ability to manage and coordinate heritage protection and land management with Aboriginal people.

  • Ability to make informed decisions in complex and challenging circumstances, with the capacity to deliver outcomes  in accordance with Alcoa's priorities.
