About the Role

Alcoa is undergoing a significant transformation in how it manages environmental approvals and have a unique opportunity for a motivated environmental approval professional to take on a meaningful challenge and make a real impact within our Regulatory Approvals team.

As our Senior Approvals Improvement Specialist, you will support the implementation and maintenance of systems and processes that underpin Alcoa's environmental approvals framework. You'll contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of approvals delivery and support business readiness for a changing regulatory landscape. Reporting to and working closely with our Approvals Manager – Improvements, your key focus areas and purpose will be:

  • Developing and maintaining systems to track and manage approvals risks, conditions, and commitments.

  • Providing professional advice to mining and refining operations on interpreting approvals conditions and commitments.

  • Supporting the development and execution of implementation plans for approvals, including project management of high-risk conditions.

  • Maintaining a secure and accessible data and records library to support approvals submissions and compliance evidence.

  • Ensuring all commitments and conditions are accurately recorded in Alcoa's compliance management systems.

  • Driving the use and continuous improvement of approvals systems and tools across the business.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline.

  • Experienced working in a similar role within the resources industry driving change initiatives and implementing regulatory approvals processes within complex environments.

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental compliance, including data governance and systems management.

  • Highly developed written communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, technical reports and presentations.

  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, industry standards, and policies guiding environmental and regulatory practices.

  • Strengths in building productive partnerships with both internal teams and external stakeholders through a collaborative and inclusive working style.

  • Experience working in mining operations is highly desirable

  • Willingness to travel to various operational sites and stakeholder locations as required to support project delivery.
