About the Role
We're seeking a forward-thinking Water Planning Specialist to join our expanding team and help drive strategic water initiatives across our Australian operations. In this newly created role and reporting to our Director - Water Planning, you will play a key part in ensuring water supply security, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability through innovative, risk-based planning.
Your key activities and purpose will be:
Leading the collection and enhancement of operational water data, including the development of integrated water balances and forecasting tools across Alcoa sites.
Coordinating governance activities and providing logistical support for regional water risk management frameworks.
Contributing to setting strategic direction for water supply, treatment, and disposal, with a strong focus on Western Australian operations.
Supporting the implementation of water infrastructure strategies that align with risk mitigation and long-term stewardship goals.
Collaborating across teams to embed water initiatives into broader business strategies and ensure regulatory compliance.
Acting as a technical advisor in water management, driving continuous improvement through stakeholder engagement and best practice sharing.

What you can bring to the role
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Change or Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydrology or related field.
Extensive experience in water management and planning, preferably in the resources sector.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in development of operational water plans and catchment management initiatives.
An ability to gather and interpret complex information from multiple sources to address technical and strategic challenges.
Proven experience supporting risk identification, assessment, and mitigation across diverse operational contexts.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and familiarity with the inputs and outputs of water modelling tools (e.g. GoldSim, OpSim); basic GIS knowledge is an advantage.
Skilled in translating data into actionable insights to support informed decision-making and long-term planning.
Effective communication with a track record of collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder groups.
Deep understanding of water governance frameworks, cultural water values, and have a strong commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.
