THE ROLE:
Step up in an organization built to engage more strategically and deeply with our commercial customers, specifically their architecture and engineering teams. As a member of our client team, you will drive cross-team engineering efforts to deliver system solutions for strategic customers that enable growth in our joint business. The mission of this role is to drive excellence with Ryzen powered systems both strategically and tactically.
As a key engineer on our team, you configure and tune Linux distribution packages to take advantage of AMD technologies on customer platforms. Analyze, configure, and propose changes to platform system firmware to allow the kernel and other services extract platform configuration and runtime information. Join a group of engineers collaborating with customers to help understand how the configuration and enablement of platform and software features fulfill end-to-end user scenarios in commercial platforms. Participate in planning the next generation CPU/APUs. Figure out how changes in the kernel upstream pipeline help meet the goals of new platforms.
Your role as a Linux Engineer is to enable Ryzen APU/CPU within Linux distros (RHEL, Ubuntu etc.) and work with the cross-functional team for Linux OS bring-up
- Plan, design, review and evaluate Linux OS specifications for targeted platforms
- Ability to engage with external partners and customers to enable preferred kernels and distros on Ryzen platforms
- Contribute to the design and architecture of high-quality, complex systems, Linux environments and the compatibility among commodities
- Ability to debug complex, system-level, multi-component issues that typically span across multiple layers in the system, using either written or verbal skill
- Collaborate in a team environment across multiple engineering disciplines, making the architectural tradeoffs required to rapidly deliver base level solutions for the platform
- Experience in C and Python skills, git
- Familiarity with at least one major Linux distro
THE PERSON:
A proficient Systems design engineer with strong Linux skills. Take a primary role in between silicon engineers, firmware engineers, software engineers, platform engineers and architects. Deliver plans to support major Linux distribution partners in upcoming platform launch plans. Demonstrate ability to optimally deliver commercial technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gain expertise on development efforts in the Linux kernel and the open-source ecosystem. Support new processor capabilities by implementing improving new features in Linux. Be a part of our team as we shape platform configurations and components that represent an efficient integration of hardware and software/firmware.
Want to rebuild a kernel with optional components and build flags that can fine tune a kernel for a specific CPU and platform configuration? Want to contribute to the Linux ecosystem by adding and optimizing kernel features for OEM Laptop/Desktop/Workstation designs. This is the ideal opportunity!
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Hands-on debugging experience of CPU/APU/GPU related FW and SW components. Experience putting PC systems together, installing normal PC components including memory, storage, processors and other devices.
- Excellent coding/debugging skills in C and Python, Proficient in ACPI/ASL and Assembly Language.
- Well versed with Client PC (x86) system design and validation; testing tools and environments, defect tracking and source code version control (Git).
- General familiarity with computer architecture concepts and silicon features; Microsoft Operating Systems, excellent skills in Linux operating systems, virtualization software (KVM, Xen, et al.), validation/certification processes for each of these environments; driver backports; stress testing.
- Plus understanding and experience with different frameworks and subsystems in Linux responsible for controlling power, performance, and thermal; benchmarking suites used to determine platform capabilities; managing Linux-based devices in commercial environments; working with platform firmware and services (UEFI/ACPI), Linux kernel API, and other interfaces used by Linux systems.
