Artificial Intelligence Design Engineer 2 (DE2)

Team: AMD Infinity Fabric

Role Overview

As an AI Design Engineer 2 (DE2) in an AMD IP organization, you will design and deploy AI-driven tools, workflows, and automation frameworks that enhance RTL design and verification productivity, quality, and turnaround time.

This role sits parallel to RTL and Verification teams, focusing on AI-assisted engineering solutions, process optimization, and intelligent automation, rather than direct hardware design or verification.

Key Responsibilities

AI Tools & Automation Development

  • Design and implement AI/ML-based tools to support:
    • RTL development workflows
    • Design verification productivity
    • IP quality and signoff readiness
  • Develop solutions for:
    • Intelligent lint triage
    • CDC/RDC issue classification
    • Regression failure clustering and root-cause analysis
    • Log analysis and anomaly detection

AI for Engineering Productivity

  • Apply machine learning and LLM-based techniques to:
    • Analyze RTL, testbenches, and tool outputs
    • Recommend fixes or optimizations
    • Automate repetitive engineering tasks
  • Create context-aware AI assistants for RTL/DV engineers

Process & Infrastructure Integration

  • Integrate AI solutions into:
    • Existing EDA flows
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Regression and build systems
  • Work closely with:
    • RTL designers
    • DV engineers
    • CAD/IT and methodology teams
  • Ensure tools are scalable, robust, and secure for enterprise use

Data Engineering & Model Enablement

  • Build and maintain datasets from:
    • Simulation logs
    • Lint/CDC reports
    • Coverage databases
    • Version control systems
  • Select, train, fine-tune, or adapt models for:
    • Classification
    • Clustering
    • Natural language understanding of hardware artifacts

Evaluation & Adoption

  • Define metrics to measure:
    • Productivity improvement
    • Quality gains
    • Reduction in debug time
  • Drive adoption through:
    • Documentation
    • Training
    • Feedback-driven iteration

Required Qualifications

Education

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in:
    • Computer Science
    • Electrical / Electronics Engineering
    • Data Science / AI (with strong systems background)

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in:
    • AI/ML tools development or
    • EDA automation / methodology engineering or
    • Software engineering for hardware teams
  • Hands-on exposure to RTL or Verification workflows (user-level understanding)

Technical Skills

  • Strong programming skills in:
    • Python (primary)
    • C++ or Java (preferred)
  • Experience with:
    • Machine learning / NLP techniques
    • LLM APIs or fine-tuning workflows
  • Familiarity with:
    • RTL (SystemVerilog) and DV concepts (UVM) — conceptual, not design-level
    • EDA tool outputs and flows
  • Experience with:
    • Data processing, feature engineering
    • Model evaluation and iteration

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience building:
    • AI copilots for engineering teams
    • Log intelligence or analytics platforms

  • Exposure to:
    • MLOps
    • CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitLab)
  • Understanding of:
    • IP reuse and signoff processes

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to translate engineering pain points into AI solutions
  • Comfortable working across design, verification, CAD, and IT
  • Clear communication with both hardware and software teams
  • #LI-BM2
