THE ROLE:

The AMD Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group (AECG), formerly Xilinx, is committed to proliferating Adaptive SoCs, FPGAs, and their associated designs tools (Vivado) and software platforms (Vitis). We are seeking a DevOps Compute Infrastructure Director to lead our strategic and operational initiatives, ensuring excellence in developer experience and engineering productivity. This role is critical in maintaining our product leadership and addressing opportunities across all market segments amid growing AI adoption. 

 

THE PERSON:

As DevOps Director of Compute Infrastructure, you will lead a global team to enable best in class developer experience for a large software R&D organization. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced leader who will be responsible for the vision and execution of hardware infrastructure projects and critical enterprise/cloud software applications. You will partner with technical experts and senior management to drive adoption of best practices, tools, hardware, and cloud services to improve efficiency, quality, security, and productivity of the software development organization. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a global team to execute on strategic projects meeting the compute infrastructure requirements of a large/diverse software development organization 

  • Work with vendors to specify enterprise and cloud hardware and software products for procurement and help determine the optimal allocation of resources across sites and product teams 

  • Research and deploy new technologies and services to improve efficiency and productivity of software development activities 

  • Maintains and operates technology platforms and tooling used by CI/CD processes including deployable artifacts 

  • Advise on licensing terms, security policies, and audit/legal compliance 

  • Maintain documentation describing usage and support of services and tools  

  • Coordinate support across time zones and geographies 

  • Continue to grow the team, provide mentorship, and build future leaders 

  • Collect and report Key Performance Indicators and operational metrics 

  • Cross-functional cooperation and alignment with IT and software engineering stakeholders 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Proven engineering leader with a passion for delivering robust, secure, productive, and well-supported compute infrastructure services 

  • Review and provide feedback on features, technology, architecture, designs, resources, and budgets related to Developer Experience 

  • Strong understanding of software development, CI/CD, and IT concepts for large-scale software products 

  • Successful deployment of dockers, containers, and kubernetes including CI/CD automation frameworks such as Jenkins and GitHub actions/runners 

  • Experience administering revision control systems (such as GitHub or Perforce), artifact deployment (such as JFrog Artifactory), and remote file system synchronization (such as RSYNC, NetApp FlexCache) 

  • Experience deploying standardized IDEs and remote software development environments  

  • Experience administering bug tracking and wiki services such as Atlassian Jira and Confluence tools 

  • Knowledge of OS and application software provisioning tools for Linux and Windows physical hosts and through hypervisor virtualization 

  • Proficiency with Linux (navigation, shell scripting, system monitoring) and networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, VPN, SSL Certificates) 

  • Understanding of information security procedures 

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills 

  • Working experience in DevOps or IT leadership role 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science
