This will be a remote role based out of the Banfield Pet Hospital headquarters in Vancouver, WA.

Salary Range: $139,128 - $208,692 (DOE)

Summary and Qualifications:

In service to doctor retention and engagement, the Director of Doctor Mentorship designs, deploys, and oversees the methods to achieve the success of the Doctor Mentor Program. This role partners with cross functional stakeholders to ensure they are meeting the needs of the business and delivering on medical quality and retention.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Identifies, recruits, and develops the talent needed to fulfil the Doctor Mentor role and aligns mentors with market needs and builds effective teams.
  • Develops and updates mentor curricula in collaboration with Vice Presidents of Veterinary Quality (VPVQs) and People & Organization (P&O) partners, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and leveraging evidence-based best practices to drive excellence.
  • Identifies areas for improvement, analyses data, and crafts development strategies and reporting to address gaps in knowledge, performance or development of doctor mentors.
  • Fosters a supportive learning environment by providing guidance and feedback to help Doctor Mentors achieve their professional goals.
  • In partnership with P&O, maintains oversight of mentor/mentee educational resources, program evaluation and communication of outcomes to key stakeholders.
  • Oversees materials, resources, and budgets to effectively support resource and client needs.
  • Assesses growth and development programs and proper utilization ensuring focus on critical initiatives that are meeting Associate needs and that they remain on track.
  • Incorporates topical research, relevant data, current trends and best practices to continuously improve mentor tools, resources and practices.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • This position requires 50% travel.
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • DVM or VMD is required, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • At least ten years of experience in Veterinary Medicine are required, with a minimum of five years leading a large team of 10-15 professionals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with strong teamwork and collaboration skills is required.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams is required.
  • Technical proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools is required.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment are required.
  • Forward thinking and demonstrated ability to proactively identify future needs are required.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work well in an ambiguous environment is required.
  • Proven ability to drive results is required.
  • Experience leading a large team remotely is preferred.
  • Experience using Workday and PowerBI is preferred.
