PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

Responsible for planning and executing nutritional and wellness services to the patient, health care team and community, particularly in the areas of nutrition education, disease prevention, and promotion of healthy lifestyle choices. Works closely with the Lead Dietitian and supports the clinical nutrition team 2-3 days per week with all phases of patient care and educational services.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Promotes wellness offerings of the Apple Blossom Café physically in the café, on the internal website, the Core, and in internal newsletters including Branches and the Food and Nutrition department's newsletter. Assists Retail Manager in bringing healthier options to our Cafeteria and Healing Grounds Kiosk.
  • Duty 2: Coordinates, teaches and offers nutrition and wellness education sessions to all BVHS associates. Responsible for development and implementation of programs and education classes for BVHS associates which may include health fairs, nutrition classes, grocery store tours, fitness classes, Lunch and Learn classes, etc. This includes coordinating National Nutrition Month programing and activities with the clinical nutrition team.
  • Duty 3: Participates and champions community wellness initiatives. Collaborates with other health professionals and community leaders to solidify our role as a wellness and nutrition leader in the BVHS Organization, the community, and area businesses. Partners with local businesses and organizations to promote wellness and nutrition and provide onsite education/training/learning programs.
  • Duty 4: Participates in community presentations via television, radio, and/or social media at the request of the PR department. Composes and contributes nutrition-related articles to local publications through the Courier's Weekend Doctor column.
  • Duty 5: Coaches and educates clients on lifestyle and diet modifications through various programs offered through BVHS
  • Duty 6: Stays abreast of national wellness trends and nutrition therapy to implement changes in the BVHS program as needed. 
  • Duty 7: Maintains ongoing communication with key leaders in the organization to establish goals and identify results of BVHS wellness program.
  • Duty 8: Uses the nutrition care process to assess and implements the plan of care for assigned patients, including consultations as requested by the physician. Patients are followed up according to plan of care.
  • Duty 9: Appropriately identifies the need for nutrition support. Works with nursing and medical staff to ensure the patient receives optimal nutrition care. Calories and protein are properly calculated to patient's height weight, and age. Properly calculates additional nutrient levels based on patient assessment. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Duty 10: Assures compliance to Joint Commission, Ohio Department of Health and other regulatory agencies.  Follows all department policies and procedures.
  • Duty 11: Maintains good rapport with medical and nursing staff as evidenced by peer review. Also maintains good rapport with patients and families.
  • Duty 12: Manages time efficiently, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and preparing reports as needed.
  • Duty 13: Actively participates in department meetings, nursing rounds, hospital committees, performance improvement projects and other meetings as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. Degree in Dietetics or a similar area of concentration
  • Registered Dietitian or Registration eligible. Registration and licensure to practice Dietetics in Ohio is required within 30 days of commencement of position.
  • Must obtain National Provider Number and reassign billing benefits to BVHS within 90 days of commencement of position.  Must maintain an active Medicare number.
  • Ability to use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint along with the ability to effectively use the EMR in use by the organization
  • This individual must have excellent customer service, public speaking, coaching and organizational skills.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with diverse populations, clinical staff, department management, community organizations, as well as other staff professionals.
  • Be a team player and self-directed.
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state).  You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.  Considers culture and religious preferences and beliefs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Clinical experience desired (supports clinical nutrition team 2-3 days per week)
  • 1-3 years' experience in nutrition coaching and counseling
  • 1-3 years' experience in health promotion or health management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
