Join us as a Lead Revenue Recognition Analyst!
BMC Software is seeking an experienced Lead Revenue Recognition Analyst to join our Revenue Recognition team. In this role, you will focus on ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 606, reviewing customer contracts, documenting accounting conclusions, and advising business partners on the revenue implications of contractual terms.
You'll work cross-functionally with teams including Sales, Legal, FP&A, Operations, Revenue Accounting, and external auditors, with significant collaboration across the United States and Latin America.
Here is how, through this exciting role, you will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
- Review customer contracts and document revenue recognition conclusions in accordance with ASC 606.
- Partner with Sales, Legal, FP&A, and Operations to evaluate contract terms and advise on deal structure, revenue, and cash flow implications.
- Review revenue reconciliations, variance reports, and other reporting to support an accurate and timely financial close.
- Support internal and external audits, including SOX walkthroughs, control evidence, PBC schedules, and management responses.
- Assist with SSP considerations and improvements to revenue recognition processes.
- Research technical accounting topics and prepare accounting memos for new guidance, non-standard transactions, and evolving business models.
- Support revenue accounting system upgrades and acquired-entity integrations.
- Partner with stakeholders on new deal models and technical revenue recognition matters.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation.
To ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
- You hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- You have 5+ years of progressive Revenue Accounting experience, preferably within an enterprise IT, SaaS, or IT-enabled services organization.
- You have a strong understanding of software licenses, maintenance, SaaS, and professional services revenue models, including T&M, fixed-fee, and milestone-based arrangements.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606.
- You have experience working with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, NetSuite). Experience with revenue recognition platforms such as Zuora RevPro, Certinia, or similar systems preferred.
- You have advanced Microsoft Excel skills and working knowledge of tools such as SQL, Tableau, MicroStrategy, or Power BI.
- Experience researching technical accounting topics and drafting accounting memos and policies.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently during tight financial close deadlines.
- You embrace AI as a tool to help automate and improve processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to interpret and communicate accounting, contractual, and financial information in both English and Spanish.
