Mainframe Senior z/OS Consultant (AMI Cloud focus) - USA

The BMC Senior z/OS Consultant provides leadership on technical delivery engagements by implementing and delivering mainframe infrastructure projects.  A Senior Consultant works closely with the Practice Lead (PL) and Project Management (PM) team to meet the approved Customer requirements.  The Senior Consultant performs the technical hands to keyboard and over the shoulder software and configuration changes on customer systems. The Senior Consultant translates logical design into physical designs and contributes to detailed design documentation, as well as contributes to the development of procedures and standards within BMS.

This position will have a primary focus on our AMI Cloud product suite which includes AMI Cloud Data, Vault, and Analytics components.  Most of the services provided are part of competitive product replacements.  For AMI Cloud this often involves moving clients off existing physical and virtual tape system infrastructure to cloud-based storage and data protection.  AMI Cloud requires knowledge and experience in mainframe hardware and software infrastructure, including backup and archive technologies, storage environments, system software configurations, security, unix/linux, zCX, and object storage.  This is a fast-growing area within the BMC product space.  As a secondary focus, this position will also provide services to overlapping product areas for the team of AMI Data, AMI Ops Monitoring and Automation, and AMI Storage products. 


Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:

  • Works interactively with all project staff, both BMC internal and Customer.
  • Leads workshops and expert service engagements for smaller implementations that do not involve a project manager, thus managing the delivery fully with the client.
  • Performs complex analysis of customer projects based upon the SOW and delivery deadlines. Ensures customer is prepared and ready for agreed start dates and that all environments are ready for project implementation
  • Performs and coordinates the Install, Configuration, Migration and Implementation activities of all z/OS Software changes, adhering to customer software delivery life cycle, all change controls and black- out periods
  • Contributes to Customer ready design documentation to support all Functional requirements, Technical Solution Design, Test Strategy and Deployment Plans
  • Advises on updates to the Project or Service Schedule to the PM, PL, SA or SDM
  • Recognizes customer requests that fall outside scope of the SOW or any new opportunities and brings it to the attention of the PM/PL for further review.
  • Successfully moves Customer into production on the target BMC solution, transitioning the project to closure with both the customer and BMC teams.


To ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:

  • 10+ relevant years mainframe technical experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer:
  • 3+ years with HSM/FDR-ABR back up experience with RTO and RPO knowledge
  • 3+ years working in Services or projects, preferably Customer facing in a professional consultative capacity
  • Expert experience in z/OS Operating System and Program Product installs, SYSPLEX, system configurations, in large complex environments. Strong experience with SMP/e, testing and deployment strategies, problem determination and resolution. Architectural skills in SYSPLEX layout, system standard naming conventions and software distribution skills
  • Solid experience with Object storage on prem and in the cloud (AWS/Azure)
  • Solid experience in Mainframe Network/TCPIP/USS/SNA, RACF, SMS, Tape and Disk Storage
  • Consultative skills with customers, contractors when driving deliverables and setting priorities
  • A self-starter, willing to work without a net with a proven ability to meet assigned timelines with high quality, complete deliverables in unsupervised, often remote, situations.
  • Willingness to mentor, share ideas and knowledge with other colleagues promoting best practices.
  • Demonstrable experience of deployment lifecycle across multiple environments (Test, Dev, QA and Production).
  • Demonstrated success in building key relationships with Sales, Technical Support, Application Teams and Product Engineering.

Preferred:

  • US Security Clearance (desirable)
  • Experience with HSM/FDR-ABR Backup solutions
  • Migration experience with Automation tools, Scheduling tools, Tape Management Data Center, Storage and DR.
  • Strong experience with install and configuration of OEM software products, BMC, IBM and CA-Broadcom products

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $108,525 - $180,875
