Job Description:

The goal of the Vasudevan laboratory is to investigate the specialized gene expression program that promotes the persistence of clinically resistant cancer cells and develop RNA-based therapeutics to curtail disease persistence. Ongoing projects in the lab investigate the mechanisms of regulation of critical genes by RNA binding proteins, circular RNAs, nucleotide modifications, and ribosomes in resistant cancer cells and develop mRNA vaccines and other therapeutics, using human cell lines, stem cells, patient samples, and in vivo models.

The Research Assistant will assist the PI in experiments involving general molecular biology procedures, cell culture, biochemistry, and laboratory maintenance. The Research Assistant will also assist with data analysis and record keeping. The primary purpose of this position is to help the lab make progress toward its research goals. The Research Assistant will work closely with other staff (postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students) to perform experiments. This position will perform experiments according to established laboratory protocols, and will provide technical assistance, as instructed, toward the development of new procedures.  

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job Qualifications: Education and Experience (Grade 7)
  • Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field.

  • Undergraduate research experience with previous experience working in a laboratory setting.

  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Molecular, Cell Biology and Biochemistry.

  • Experience working with zebrafish larvae and mouse colonies preferred.

  • Strong computer skills with preferably some experience using laboratory data programs.

  • Previous experience working with scientific data bases is preferred.

Education and Experience (Grade 8)
  • Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field plus 1-2 years of related full-time lab experience.

  • Required: Undergraduate research experience with previous experience working in a laboratory setting.

  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Molecular, Cell Biology and Biochemistry.

  • Experience working with zebrafish larvae and mouse colonies preferred.

  • Strong computer skills with preferably some experience using laboratory data programs.

  • Previous experience working with scientific data bases is preferred.
