PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Instructs and supervises Cardiovascular Sonography students in the didactic, laboratory and clinical phases of their education to prepare them for an Associate Degree in specialty as assigned by the Program Coordinator.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides didactic instruction and evaluation for students enrolled in the program.
  • Provides instruction in skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and provide the care needed.
  • Provides laboratory demonstration, instruction and pre-clinical evaluation for students.
  • Provides clinical demonstration, instruction and evaluation for students as both formative feedback and terminal competency testing.
  • Develops course outlines, objectives and evaluation tools for designated courses that are consistent with accreditation requirements and college policy.
  • Coordinates clinical rotations with affiliate clinical sites; communicates frequently in reference to student learning.
  • Provides academic counseling as needed to students during all phases of the educational program.
  • Participates in the Advisory Board, Admission Committee, faculty meetings and in-services as assigned.
  • Maintains student records that are consistent with accreditation requirements, college policy, and hospital policy.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Regularly interacts with students, Program Coordinator, Medical Advisor, Allied Health faculty, related department personnel to include managers, supervisors, staff, and physicians.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or;
  • Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, plus a BS in a related field required.
  • Appropriate credential(s) specific to the concentrations offered. Minimum required ARDMS RDCS (AE) and ARDMS RVT. Multiple active specialty credentials are required.
  • The equivalent of two years full-time professional experience as a general sonographer, cardiac sonographer, pediatric cardiac sonographer and/or vascular technologist.
  • Proficiency in teaching methodology, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and guidance, with prior teaching experience preferred.
