Please note: Candidates who have not yet achieved full Building Safety Codes Officer Certification are encouraged to apply and may be considered for a Building Safety Codes Officer I position. Applicants who hold their Safety Codes Officer Certification will be considered at the Building Safety Codes Officer II level.

What will you do?
Conduct Daily Building Inspections: You will be the expert on-site, performing daily inspections of residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with the Building Code, bylaws, and other municipal standards
Coach permit applicants on how to resolve issues and follow up on conditions and notices to ensure deficiencies are corrected. You will also provide expert guidance on building codes and regulations to contractors, designers, and citizens, fostering positive relationships and enhancing the City's reputation
Make Critical Decisions: Grant detailed permits for construction to proceed at various stages, with the authority to withhold, suspend, revoke, and extend permits as necessary to ensure public safety
Collaborate and Advise: Consult with other municipal business areas and provincial authorities on complex issues, offering your expertise on code interpretations and applications
Manage Data and Records: Accurately input relevant data, reports, correspondence, and permits into our data management systems, including POSSE
Grow Your Expertise: If you have limited Safety Codes courses, you may be eligible for a mentorship program. This unique opportunity allows you to complete your remaining courses on the City's time and dime. Plan review experience is a bonus, but we're ready to train the right candidate
