Are you a communications pro with a passion for your city? Join the City of Edmonton's Community Services department as a Communications Advisor and help shape the way we connect with Edmontonians. 

We're looking for skilled communicators who can craft compelling messages, deliver effective communications plans and reach diverse communities across the city. In this role, you'll play a key part in supporting public programs, initiatives and services that enhance the well-being of Edmontonians. The Community Services department is a front-line partner with residents and communities committed to creating a safe, healthy and vibrant city. 

What will you do?

  • Lead, develop and implement communications strategies, and marketing and public education campaigns for external and internal audiences
  • Identify emerging issues and provide timely advice and effective strategies in response to those issues
  • Liaise with other orders of government, community and other interested and impacted parties when appropriate
  • Lead media relations, organize media events, develop media strategies, pitch stories to media, lead the development of responses to media inquiries, coach spokespeople and sometimes serve as a spokesperson
  • Support Council processes (Council reports, preparation for committee and council meetings)Develop and implement creative and engaging social media strategies and content to advance department goals and enhance communication efforts
  • Provide communications support to public engagement initiatives
  • Write news releases, public service announcements, media advisories, brochures, newsletters and other communication products
  • Edit, develop and update web and 311 content for programs, projects and initiatives
  • Work with clients, designers, printers, vendors and marketing agencies to create effective communications and advertising products
  • Perform other related duties as required
