Take the lead in this exciting role as a Community Heritage Liaison for Community Services working with the curatorial and programming staff at the City of Edmonton's Attractions such as the Muttart Conservatory, City Arts Centre, John Walter Museum and John Janzen Nature Centre, to develop community relationships and implement a new process for creating, nurturing and growing heritage exhibits and programs. Your experience in making connections and collaborating with many different groups and individuals to find common ground will assist you in this position.
This position has a role in raising awareness of community elders, documentarians and knowledge keepers that the City values the preservation and sharing of their stories, traditions and heritage either through artifacts or records which could illustrate their community's place within Edmonton's narrative. There is also a focus on how to make various City Attractions welcoming to all as co-creator of spaces and programs related to their culture and heritage.
What you will do:
- Assess outreach opportunities in the community to develop new initiatives with an emphasis on heritage
- Be responsible for ongoing consultation and communication with key stakeholders to establish program and space needs and priorities and facilitate how these might be met as appropriate
- Co-create and review any contracts or agreements with community groups to ensure the City's facility and museums' mandate/focus is reflected as well as the interests of the community
- Develop and implement an Exhibition Strategy / Framework that guides decisions regarding which collection projects the Heritage Unit will support in various facilities
- Act as primary liaison with other City Departments, boards and agencies in the development and implementation of external community relationships, especially as it relates to temporary exhibit spaces
- Identify, engage, and maintain relationships (in tandem with the Community Archivist, Curatorial and Attraction Facility staff) with Internal and External Stakeholder groups through the project development process to keep them informed and engaged at the appropriate levels
- Provide support to Section or Branch initiatives, especially as they pertain to communities' around programs, heritage and conservation
- Develop procedures to inform staff on how to initiate, develop and maintain relationships in the heritage, conservation areas, and socialize those within the Community Recreation and Culture branch
- Maintain a contact list relating to where cultural community and community of interest collections may be held outside the City to build a database of where exhibit / research collections and subject matter experts can be accessed
- Perform related work as required including facilitating the installation and rotation of temporary exhibits in the Pop-Up Edmonton! Program
