The Edmonton Police Service requires six (6) Digital Evidence Management Technicians to fulfill critical roles in the Digital Evidence & Records Management Unit. As a Digital Evidence Management Technician, you will process digital evidence and information from various sources including body-worn video, security and surveillance systems, internally produced recordings for investigative purposes, and other born-digital or digitized sources. You will play a critical role in ensuring and maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and authenticity of EPS' digital evidence.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Ensuring digital evidence is correctly named, indexed, and categorized for effective retrieval and management.
- Performing quality checks by cross-referencing information to identify any incomplete, incorrect, or duplicate entries.
- Analyzing records from different sources to ensure all digital evidence has been captured in the Digital Evidence Management System.
- Maintaining the Digital Evidence Management System and ensuring that the proper controls are in place for access to this data.
- Ensuring redaction markers are accurately inserted prior to submitting to the Crown for approval.
- Using various technologies and a range of software techniques to vet and/or convert media evidence.
- Recording all procedures followed and technologies used during the redacting and vetting processes, with the knowledge and understanding that this information is subject to disclosure.
- Liaising with Forensic Video Analysis Detail (FVAD) when video requires further analysis, enhancement, or editing.
- Responding to Crown requests for Body-Worn Video recordings in a time-sensitive manner.
- Managing multiple priorities and requests, ensuring they are fulfilled within the required timeframe.
- Providing recommendations for process improvement.
- Performing administrative functions and other related duties to support EPS' digital evidence management program.
- Performing other related duties as required.
