We're seeking a dedicated individual to join us as a Planning Technician I, responsible for delivering essential planning services within our dynamic and multi-functional environment.

As a key member of our service delivery team, you'll play a crucial role in reviewing and rendering decisions on minor development permit applications, utilizing your keen eye for detail and adherence to regulatory guidelines. Your responsibilities will extend to writing reports and attending hearings at the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, providing invaluable information, interpretation, and direction to stakeholders.

  • Intake, review and render decisions on minor development permits such as Backyard Housing, Single detached, Semi-detached, and Duplex house development permit applications, as well as home improvement permits, development permits for home-based businesses, certain permanent signage, all temporary signage
  • Review and process requests for compliance certificates in consultation with the Zoning Bylaw. Circulate and prepare any resulting encroachment agreements. This includes circulation for comment to appropriate City departments and preparation of encroachment agreement letters
  • Review and research zoning clearances related to business licenses, including on-line applications. Involves examination of development approvals, evaluation of current zoning, and ensuring compliance with applicable bylaws, acts and regulations
  • Review and issue curb crossing permits. This includes liaising and coordinating with the Transportation Department
  • Provide customers with knowledgeable and timely responses to their inquiries involving zoning, major and minor development questions and application procedures for development permits
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
