The Role:
Reporting to the Director, Environment and Climate Resilience, the Principal Climate Strategist is one of the subject matter experts for the Energy Transition and Adaptation program, and will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to update, implement, and maintain strategies of the program. 

With an impact on all City departments, services, infrastructure, external partnerships, and future development and redevelopment, this position is a technical expert with the ability and experience to manage a team of professionals dedicated to collaborating in the delivery of the Energy Transition and Climate Adaptation program.

Goals and deliverables:

  • Lead a team of professional scientists, analysts/advisors dedicated to the delivery of the City's climate strategies 
  • Establish a supportive and accountable culture, and ensure exceptional client service to the organization
  • Provide leadership and direction for the group that will provide recommendations on the development of climate resilience planning processes, programs, and policies 
  • Coordinate and engage with City Council, internal stakeholders and citizens to establish and lead processes to ensure the program is clearly articulated 
  • Guide staff to work with stakeholders to develop strategic plans to achieve climate resilience outcomes and targets, while identifying touch points that will be impacted by the plans and frameworks and processes needed for implementation and change management
  • Research new national leading methodologies and processes related to climate resilience, when existing practices don't exist
  • Actively participate in the development of strategies for the Section and Branch and in alignment with the City's Community Energy Transition Strategy and Climate Resilient Edmonton Adaptation Strategy
  • Establish and lead processes to continually explore and evaluate program risks and opportunities for Edmonton and update the program accordingly
  • Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies, orders of government and community organizations
  • Anticipate business opportunities, influence policy, planning and initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
  • Integrate multi-disciplinary teams to work collaboratively with stakeholders supporting corporate priorities
