This Administrative Assistant I position exists for the purpose of providing administrative support for the TRIO Student Support Services Disabilities federal grant program. The position is expected to work with the Director and Advisor to recruit students, screen applications, schedule interview and contract appointments, and implement grant activities to support student success. The AA I will assist the Director with hiring, training, and supervising student workers. The AA I will manage a database to track student participation, draft reports, and assist the Director with federal reporting requirements. The AA I will manage the student computer/study lounge
Additional knowledge, skills and/or abilities
Exhibit excellent critical thinking skills through a demonstrated ability to interpret and evaluate explanations of problems of sensitive and complex nature, analyzing and defining issues obtained explicitly and implicitly from students, faculty and staff. Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of at- risk and disadvantaged students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds typical of community college students. Possess strong problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and demonstrated ability as a self-starter planning and carrying out short-term and long-term action plan. Must be approachable and personable and articulate with excellent writing, interpersonal and public speaking skills, and able to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff. Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA including ability to interpret and adhere to student privacy policies. Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer database management.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clerical experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records, answering telephones, and reviewing forms, documents and other written materials; OR six months of experience as an Administrative Aid in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and methods; word processing software; data entry techniques; recordkeeping techniques; telephone etiquette.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Organizational and time management skills.
Weekly Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Starting Salary
Classified Grade 23, Step 1 - $39,421.44
Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
