A Day in the Life of a Health Information Specialist
As a Health Information Specialist I, you will be central in maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records to support ongoing patient care and facility operations. Your responsibilities include retrieving and updating patient charts, both manually and digitally, ensuring data is current and correctly filed. You will be expected to handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and adhere to strict data protection policies. Collaboration with various healthcare teams is crucial to facilitate the efficient use of patient information while complying with regulatory and facility standards. Additionally, you might provide direction and training to new staff, helping to maintain workflow efficiency and accuracy within the department.

Managing Health Information with Excellence
In the Health Information Management (HIM) Department at CRMC, we ensure that medical records are accurate, secure, and accessible to the payors, providers and patients who rely on them. Our team specializes in coding, data integrity, transcription, release of information, and referral coordination, playing a vital role in supporting clinical decision-making, billing accuracy, and compliance with healthcare regulations. We work behind the scenes to ensure that every diagnosis, procedure, and treatment plan is documented correctly, making healthcare safer and more efficient for everyone. Our efforts ensure that providers have the information they need to deliver high-quality care and that patients can trust the accuracy of their medical records. Whether managing electronic health records, processing referrals, sending requested records, coding or ensuring regulatory compliance, we take pride in the behind-the-scenes work that keeps healthcare running smoothly.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Required
