POSITION SUMMARY

 

  •    

    The Oncology Operations Coordinator is a registered nurse who coordinates the care of cancer patients. Coordination of care begins with the patient at diagnosis and remains throughout the entire diagnostic and treatment process, survivorship, and/or end of life.

     

    The Oncology Operations Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the cancer program's accreditation by adhering to established standards and leading quality initiatives within the oncology department. This role involves close collaboration with providers to implement quality improvements, monitor compliance with accreditation standards, and coordinate regular reviews of quality metrics. The coordinator serves as a liaison between providers and the oncology department to support the delivery of high-quality care and maintain accreditation benchmarks.

     

    Additionally, the Oncology Operations Coordinator develops and manages a comprehensive cancer survivorship program, creating individualized care plans for survivors and coordinating follow-up care. They guide the oncology team in adhering to treatment protocols and survivorship care plans, providing support on quality improvement processes and accreditation-related matters. Through continuous evaluation of care processes, the coordinator identifies areas for improvement, ensuring the program meets accreditation standards and enhances overall patient outcomes.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

 

  •   Education and Experience:  
    •   Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelor's degree of science/art in nursing preferred. Bachelor's degree of science/art in nursing required within 3-5 years. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) required. Two years clinical experience in oncology care required.
  •   License/Certificates:  
    •   Current Minnesota RN license. American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire. American Heart Association ACLS required within 4 months of hire. Completion of Chemotherapy Certification Course (Cancer Chemo Provider).
  •   Special Skills and Aptitudes:  
    •    

      • Knowledge and skills to implement nursing theory.

      • Demonstrates mature judgment, initiative and proficiency in nursing skills.

      • Effective teaching ability and ability to assess and set learning objectives for orientees and current employees.

      • Strong knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of oncology including but not limited to NCCN guidelines and best practice.

      • Effective communication and professional and positive interpersonal skills.

      • Demonstrates leadership qualities and organizational abilities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  •   Oncology Operations Coordinator:  
    •    

      1. Ensure the maintenance of accreditation for the cancer program by adhering to established standards and guidelines.

      2. Lead ongoing quality initiatives within the oncology department to enhance patient care and program effectiveness.

      3. Collaborate with providers and the oncology team to implement quality improvements and meet accreditation requirements. 

      4. Monitor and document compliance with accreditation standards, reporting any discrepancies and taking corrective actions as needed.

      5. Coordinate regular reviews of quality metrics, ensuring alignment with accreditation benchmarks. 

      6. Guide the oncology team in adhering to quality initiatives, treatment protocols, and survivorship care plans.

      7. Develop and manage a cancer survivorship program, including creating individualized care plans for survivors and coordinating follow-up care.

      8. Act as a resource for the oncology team, providing support on quality improvement processes, survivorship care, and accreditation-related matters.

      9. Engage in continuous evaluation of care processes to identify areas for improvement, maintain program accreditation, and enhance the survivorship program. 

      10. Facilitate tumor board and community outreach, including both organizational and accreditation-related initiatives. 

      11. Maintain the ability to both take on the role of the Oncology RN as well as support the roles of the Clinic Coordinator and the Navigation Coordinator.

  •   RN:  
    •    

      1. Exercises concern for the patient's welfare, maintains knowledge of the patient's condition, administers medication and performs treatment while practicing high ethical standards. 

      2. Responsible for direct and indirect care of patients assigned to him/her under the guidance of nursing leadership, maintains accurate and complete records of nursing assessment and care, and counsels of the client and family in meeting nursing related needs.

      3. Remains up to date on new nursing skills and technology while utilizing the nursing process (observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of care.

      4. Performs duties in accordance with physician's orders, the Medical Center's policies, methods, and techniques, and in coordinating with other departments and Medical Center personnel. 

      5. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
