The Ambulatory Care Department of James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital is seeking experienced Family Practice Physician to join our dynamic team.

Position Details:

The VA Tampa Healthcare System is actively recruiting to fill Physician-Family Practice positions to help care for our Veterans – America's Heroes. We are looking for individuals with broad experience in all aspects of Primary Care. The Internist will provide direct patient care to our unique Veteran population. Duties and responsibilities include, but is not limited to:

  • Provides direct medical services including diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic services within specialty, training, education and experience.
  • Patients served cover all age groups - pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Ensures appropriate medical records are maintained and updated.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and families with multiple health problems and of different backgrounds.
  • Prescribes medications according to approved formulary, and in accordance with Federal and State Law.
  • Educates patients concerning medical conditions and recommended treatments. (Specific topics include but are not limited to nutritional counseling, need for smoking cessation, need for periodic immunizations and health screening tests, acute and chronic disease management and other preventive health measures).
  • Consults other specialties as appropriate, according to service agreements.
  • Care of female patients may be required as part of ongoing duties both on an ad hoc basis and possibly as a Women's Health Designated Provider.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.

Salary Range: $220,000-$275,000

**No State Income Tax**

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Position Eligible

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Preferred Experience: Primary Care

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
