The Highlights: The Area Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life and is responsible for the management of a comprehensive and inclusive residential living program including the management of an Area Office (keys, forms, processes, etc.) and co-management of summer programs. The Area Coordinator is a full-time professional position in the Department of Housing and Residence Life and supervises 2-3  Residence Directors and several student Area Office Assistants. The Area Coordinator supports living and learning environments that encourage community development, retention, and healthy and safe living. Area Coordinators are expected to incorporate an interactive and intentional approach to student learning, empowerment, and personal growth.onal growth.
 

What You'll Do:

  • Directly supervises 2-3 Residence Directors and several student Area Office Assistants. 
  • Manages an Area Office and performs administrative functions for day-to-day operations of the residential area assigned. Maintains office hours for availability to residents and staff, including some evening and weekend commitments. 
  • Oversees the implementation and evaluation of educational opportunities in the residence halls, including support/resources for events, the residential curriculum, living learning communities, residential assessment and academic support initiatives. 
  • Oversees maintenance, damage billing, and facility condition in cooperation with Facility Operations guidelines. 
  • Supports the housing operations of residential buildings including quarterly Health & Safety inspections, in addition to quarterly opening and closings. 
  • Assists with advice, support, and referrals to students regarding academic, housing, and personal concerns. Provide conflict mediation, crisis intervention, health & safety support, and appropriate follow-up for students in the residential community.  
  • Serves as a conduct officer for student conduct cases, some of which are at higher levels of seriousness. Addresses student and parent issues arising from student conduct, counseling, and crisis-related concerns. 
  • Co-manage the on-campus summer programs to support all summer residents (including conference guests) from a living and facilities standpoint. Facilitate hiring and management of all summer staff, coordinate summer program arrivals and departures, and support summer programming initiatives. 
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-duty emergency response system for the campus community. Provide conflict mediation, crisis intervention, health & safety support, and appropriate follow-up for students in the residential community.
  • The Area Coordinator directly supervises 2-3 Residence Directors and several student Area Office Assistants.
  • The Area Coordinator has responsibility for the indirect oversight and management of programming budgets that range from $5,000 to $13,000. Additionally, the Area Coordinator oversees a student service budget for the Area Offices. 

     
What You'll Need:
  • Master's degree required in College Student Personnel, Higher Education/Student Affairs, or another related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in residence life and/or other areas of student affairs; experience in supervising/advising 
  • Ability and willingness to work varied hours including evenings and weekends as needed 
  • Ability and willingness to reside in the assigned residence hall community (furnished 2- bedroom apartment) 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work effectively with colleagues and students in and outside of Student Affairs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, crisis management, and retention efforts
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Windows, Teams, Zoom, Maxient, StarRez, and Salesforce.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work and make decisions in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, staff and faculty.
  • Ability to effectively interact with the professional and paraprofessional staff in the department.
  • Ability to provide both a student-centered and a customer service orientation.
  • Appreciation for and commitment to multiculturalism and diversity issues.
     

The Area Coordinator is responsible for responding to emergency situations as needed. Cell phone coverage is expected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when on duty. Note: Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory outcome of a criminal background check. The ability to respond to a telephone call after hours is essential. In addition, the following is required:

• Ability to visually inspect housing facilities on a regular basis in order to report work order issues. 
• Occasionally ascends and descends stairs while conducting building inspections and/or while serving on-duty.  
• Ability to make and hear calls via radio communication.   
• Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.  

  The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $47,783.00 to $61,500.00 per year.  The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
