The Highlights: Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, the Executive Director of Development is responsible for managing the day-to-day and strategic fundraising operations for the College of Law. The Executive Director manages a portfolio of Law donors and prospects, including principal gift prospects and high-level volunteers, and is responsible for building and sustaining a pool of current and future major gift prospects. The Executive Director supervises an Associate Director of Development and supports other Advancement colleagues who manage relationships with Law donors and prospects. The Executive Director works closely with the Dean of the College of Law, academic partners, and senior leaders in Advancement and DePaul to set goals and design and execute strategies that will increase philanthropic support for the law school. The Executive Director will also play a key role in DePaul's comprehensive campaign by collaborating with the Associate Vice President to develop the College of Law's campaign priorities and strategy, and set unit-specific fundraising goals.
What You'll Do:
- Maintains a portfolio of principal, major, and planned gift prospects for the College of Law. Builds, strengthens, and sustains prospect relationships with the College of Law and DePaul.
- Supervises the Associate Director of Development. Provides support and counsel to other Advancement colleagues who manage relationships with Law donors and prospects.
- Sets goals and designs and execute strategies that will increase philanthropic support for the College of Law.
- Advises and assists with initiatives at the request of the Deans and/or the Associate Vice President of Development; participates, to a reasonable extent, in university-wide activities and initiatives, task forces, and committees; Maintains a commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
- Oversee Associate Director of Development for the College of Law.
- Oversees College of Law Development budget.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (JD) highly preferred
- 8-10 years experience in frontline fundraising or related field
- Success in soliciting and closing 6 and 7-figure major gifts
- Experience working with senior leaders
- Experience supervising individuals and/or teams
- Experience in higher education and/or a legal-based non-profit organization preferred
- Polished, professional demeanor and superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to develop relationships with colleagues across all areas of Advancement and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of colleagues.
- Enthusiasm, a commitment to excellence, motivational ability, and the ability to successfully interact with high net-worth individuals and their families.
- Comfortable operating independently and taking initiative within the context of team-based, collaborative environment
- Ability to develop and organize long-term plans and execute those plans.
- An awareness and understanding of the value of a legal education and an ability to understand a professional school setting.
- Position requires some travel and occasional evening and weekend work for events and donor meetings.
