Lead and oversee the maintenance function (through a dotted-line relationship) in all distribution centers. Responsible for management of such essential matters as DC maintenance activities, safety, planning, process, standardization, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, contracting, training, and facilities management. Develops and communicates action plans for improvement and consistency among the operations. Ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT and Company policies and regulations.
Job Details:- Oversee and lead a team of Maintenance Managers to ensure operational compliance, effective execution, and achievement of key divisional KPIs. (45%)
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs and schedules, minimizing downtime and reducing costs
- Analyze performance metrics, facilitate communication, provide strategic recommendations, and develop actionable improvement plans
- Establish and manage budgets for maintenance expenses across distribution centers, ensuring cost efficiency
- Review and refine strategic goals for the maintenance department while setting clear performance expectations
- Proactive, Preventative, and Predictive Project & Program Management (20%)
- Design, communicate, and implement key processes and programs to enhance proactive, preventative, and predictive operations
- Develop improved reporting mechanisms to identify issues and opportunities before they escalate
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of high-speed sortation systems and equipment to ensure sustained peak efficiency
- Create and update contingency plans to prepare for potential disaster scenarios
- Distribution MHE & Asset Management (15%)
- Collaborates with managers to develop strategic action plans addressing current and future infrastructure and mechanical facility needs. This includes creating capital budgets, maintenance expense forecasts, and asset relocation strategies.
- Vendor and Contract Management (10%)
- Serves as the primary representative for traditional perishable distribution centers in business relationships with vendors, contractors, and third-party stakeholders, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
- Regulatory and Compliance (10%)
- Develops and implements disaster recovery plans for both Traditional and Perishable distribution centers to ensure business continuity.
- Maintains the perishable distribution centers' safety manual. In partnership with the Director of Risk Management, represents the centers in compliance efforts with OSHA, DOT, FDA, and state and local health authorities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical, mechanical, and voice/data communication diagrams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of automated systems, including conveyors, high-speed sorters, graphical monitors, and rapid sort controllers.
- Expertise in security and fire protection systems, ensuring operational safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to analyze and interpret reports, such as conveyor system sortation reports, fire protection/security alarm records, capital variance reports, and OSHA compliance logs.
- In-depth understanding of facility design and construction, supporting infrastructure planning and efficiency.
- Extensive experience in equipment maintenance and repair, covering trailers, yard trucks, and rolling stock.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, fostering effective collaboration.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, AutoCAD systems, programmable logic controllers, and maintenance control software.
- Capability to develop necessary skill sets for supervisors, technicians, and facility managers, ensuring continuous professional growth.
- Knowledge of industry safety standards for commercial vehicles, supporting regulatory adherence and safe operations.
Work Experience and/or Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent amount of experience plus 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in maintenance management for distribution facilities; preferably in a high-volume, high-speed, automated retail environment.
