General Summary:

The Manager of Geospatial Analytics is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise GIS applications, processes, and spatial databases. This role supports critical store planning, merchandising, and marketing decisions through advanced geospatial analytics. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in scripting (Python), architecting, implementing, and maintaining enterprise GIS solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the geographic information systems and geo-spatial architect and subject matter expert at Dollar General. Design and implement geospatial applications and functionality for the organization, while pursuing new applications and approaches for better leveraging the capability broadly across other functional analytical practices. Manage and maintain all ArcGIS servers, geo-databases and map services. (This includes managing user permissions, data updates, and custom layers, and generating and publishing mapping services.) 
  • Responsible for GIS projects that include new development, preparation and delivery of GIS information, analytics and thematic/geospatial mapping requests. Support all GIS needs of department specific applications. Projects include company alignment mapping, competitive overlay mapping, distance-based analytics, customer/consumer analytics, etc. 
  • Design and develop complex GIS databases, workflows, and map templates that will streamline and enhance departmental and enterprise-wide GIS needs. 
  • Manage communications and implementation for data and system upgrades, desktop upgrades, and web application upgrades with internal IT department and software/data vendors. Troubleshoot for users of ArcGIS Online and web services to ensure optimal up-time and best practices.
  • Continuously manage, document, and analyze departmental process flows and make process improvement recommendations. Create automated technical solutions based on these recommendations.
  • Extract and manipulate customer, competitive, and miscellaneous datasets for sales modeling, market share calculations, strategic projects, and site analysis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Experience working in a Retail Market Planning/Site Analysis department with a large retail company.
  • Must be experienced in Python. Ability to troubleshoot, script, and build models and tools within the GIS infrastructure.
  • Must be analytical and have excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Applicant should be self-motivated, self-starter and proactive in their approach to seeking solutions.
  • Must have experience coordinating GIS within a wide variety of organizations, groups, and individuals.
  • Experience with ESRI software products and data formats including ArcGIS, BA Desktop, BA Server, ArcGIS Online/Map Services and geodatabase management. Experience in Model Builder.
  • Must have high degree of technical competence for determining, understanding and evaluating technical information related to the job.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to assess needs, resolve problems, and provide quality information and services.
Qualifications:

Work Experience &/or Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience managing complex GIS systems in a retail or market planning environment.
