Exciting Career Opportunity: We have an Internal Auditor position open at our Corporate Fort Worth Financial Center!
Job Summary:
The Internal Auditor is responsible for planning and performing independent, objective audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, adherence to established procedures, compliance with laws and regulations, and the accuracy of financial records. This role plays a key part in strengthening the credit union's operational integrity and governance by promoting a culture of compliance, accountability, and risk management.
Key qualifications:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, risk-based internal audit plan approved by the Audit Committee.
- Perform independent audits of operational, financial, and compliance areas across the credit union, with a strong focus on evaluating adherence to documented policies and procedures.
- Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls and ensure consistent application of policies and standards across departments and branches.
- Verify compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., NCUA, BSA/AML, OFAC), internal controls, and procedural guidelines.
- Conduct targeted audits to identify gaps between practice and procedure; recommend corrective actions to align operations with established procedures.
- Initiate and conduct special investigations, including fraud detection, control failures, and process deviations, as requested by executive management or the Board.
- Prepare and deliver detailed audit reports that include identified non-compliance issues, procedural weaknesses, and practical recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor and validate the implementation of management's corrective actions on audit findings.
- Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory examiners to coordinate efforts and support comprehensive oversight.
- Promote a strong internal control culture and provide guidance on maintaining procedural compliance and mitigating operational risks.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
- EECU will, in compliance with applicable laws, evaluate an applicant's credit history. Only applicants with good credit history will be considered for open positions.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of internal audit experience, preferably within a credit union or financial institution environment.
- In-depth knowledge of credit union operations, regulatory frameworks, and procedural documentation.
Certifications Preferred:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE)
Skills & Abilities:
- Exceptional attention to detail with a strong emphasis on procedural compliance and documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication, particularly in preparing audit findings and recommendations.
- Proficiency in audit management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and core banking systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities.
- High degree of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with occasional travel to branch locations and remote work sites as needed.
- Occasional extended hours may be required to meet deadlines or during audit cycles.
Responsible for compliance of all Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Bribery Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, Reg DD, Reg E, Reg CC, Reg Z, Reg B, FCRA/FACTA, and Service Members Civil Relief. Required to attend initial and ongoing annual Bank Secrecy Act training.
