Description

The Director of Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and oversight of the organization's infection prevention program to support the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The Director of Infection Prevention and Control coordinates the Infection Prevention and Control Program at Emerus, providing guidance and professional assistance to assure there is structure and resources needed to implement an effective infection prevention and control program. The Director provides leadership and supports departments through promotion of infection prevention initiatives throughout the organization and provides strategic and operational direction for the framework of an integrated approach to the Infection Prevention and Control program



Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Microbiology, or Epidemiology is required. Master's Degree in Infection Prevention, Nursing or Public Health preferred.
  • Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology is required
  • Registered nurse (RN), Epidemiologist, or Medical Technologist (MT)
  • 5+ years infection control experience in acute care setting, required
  • 2+ years leadership of an Infection Prevention Program
  • Knowledge and experience in patient care practices, microbiology, aseptic technique, disinfection/sterilization, adult education, infectious diseases, communication, program administration, healthcare construction and epidemiology, required
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and required regulatory agency standards related to health care organizations, required
  • Position requires fluency in English, written and oral communication


Essential Job Functions

  • Directs and coordinates the infection prevention and control program through a variety of activities involving medical staff and personnel to ensure protection of patients, families, visitors, employees and healthcare personnel providing services in facilities from acquiring or disseminating an infection.
  • Coordinates and participates in reporting of infection control information to appropriate medical staff and department committees, administration, and corporate committees.
  • Provides strategic and operational direction for the framework of an integrated approach to the Infection Prevention and Control program.
  • Develops and maintains plans, SOPs, policies, and procedures that support successful quality/patient safety outcomes and ongoing improvement in the delivery of healthcare to patients, identification of areas of opportunity, and coordination and execution of regulatory compliance programs as related to Federal, State, and other agencies.
  • Develops an annual plan and risk assessment for identifying, investigation, reporting and preventing the spread of infections and communicable disease among patients, visitors, and personnel.
  • Supervises infection prevention and control staff in surveillance, prevention, and intervention of potential hospital acquired infections.
  • Directs development, implementation, and review of an ongoing program of Infection Prevention education and training for Health System employees, contract staff, volunteers, physicians, and others as needed.
  • Provides administrative direction and organization for all epidemiological investigations related to Healthcare Associated or community-acquired infections and/or occupational exposures to assure necessary safety and risk management practices are addressed following current evidence-based approach and regulatory requirements.
  • Works closely with the Employee Health Department to manage Bloodborne Pathogen exposures and other infectious exposures.
  • Assists in the design and oversight of new healthcare construction and renovation projects to provide input addressing infection risks to patients, healthcare personnel, and visitors.
  • Addresses issues for consideration during the project design phase, construction phase, and before moving into newly constructed or renovated spaces.
  • The Infection Prevention and Control program, including the regulatory aspects, is reviewed, and implemented in accordance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • The education and training of all Healthcare workers in the facility are accomplished through both online and live education to meet the requirements for Emerus, MSA and JV Partners, CMS, OSHA, DNV and other regulatory agencies.
  • Participates as needed in regulatory survey events, CMS, DNV, State Health Department
