Major Responsibilities
- Work closely with management staff to develop skill set.
- Take part in rotations with multiple departments, including but not limited to: dispatch, road supervision, safety, finance, and HR.
- Develop partnerships with location and corporate staff.
- Showcase your strong management foundation and knowledge of the business.
- Perform any related duties that are required or assigned.
- Learning Assignments:
- 1) Safety
- Manage and mitigate safety risks across a wide range of areas including accident and incident prevention, injury prevention, collision investigation, driver training and development, and Department of Transportation regulatory compliance.
- Includes but is not limited to: driver recruiting and training, accident investigation, Be Safe instruction, SST committee, cadetting, and all related record keeping.
- 2) Finance and Accounting
- Leverage strategic decision-making relating to current assets, current liabilities and the management of working capital.
- Includes but is not limited to: Payroll procedures, dashboard, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fare box procedures, fuel reconciliation, client required record keeping and all related system processing. Budgeting, forecasting, and P&L procedures including accruals and analysis.
- 3) Operations
- Ensure the efficient and profitable coordination and deployment of all services and resources within our locations.
- Includes but is not limited to: Trip or route intake process, scheduling, dispatch, driver check in/out, PIP, drug + alcohol training and use of related systems.
- 4) Maintenance
- Ensure the continuity of service through the maintenance and sustainability of the fleet and support facility assets in conjunction with other Group and Business Division functions.
- Includes but is not limited to: Learn LEAN approach, PM program, infor system, PPE knowledge, EPA, DOT and State requirements; paperless shop and related systems.
- 5) Security
- Apply a multi-layered approach efficiently and effectively to security management, integrating best practices in holistic response to risk in a transportation operation, and recognizing that security culture equates to a culture of minimizing risk.
- Includes but is not limited to: managing crisis through proactive preparation; emergency response: recognizing signs of fraud and waste; IT security;
- 6) Sales
- Make strategic decisions for growth by leveraging skills, knowledge, and leading practices in the competition for transportation business.
- Includes but is not limited to: identification of sales opportunities; planning for acquisitions; Sales Plan; bid process; customer contracts
- 7) Human Resource
- Foster an inclusive culture by focusing on attracting, developing, and managing our most important asset: our employees.
- Includes but is not limited to: best practices, processes, and applicable policies to attract and hire top talent; applicant tracking system (eRcu); job descriptions; background checks; compensation management; performance management; developing talent; lawful separations and terminations; mitigation of risk though adherence to state and federal laws; benefits
- 8) Labor Relations
- Accomplish management and operational objectives within the confines of a labor agreement (Collective Bargaining Agreement).
- Includes but is not limited to: NLRA; collective bargaining; union environment
- 9) Legal
- Identify and mitigate legal, regulatory and commercial risk to the business across a wide range of areas including contractual, litigation, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), regulatory, property, antitrust/competition and corporate issues.
- Includes but is not limited to alignment with legal and regulatory obligations and compliance; binding contracts
Minimum Education or Certifications Required
- High School Diploma/GED with 3-4 years of Transportation/Logistics experience and/or 1-2 years of supervisory experience. Bachelors degree is a Plus.
Minimum Experience or Skills Required
- 1 -2 years of previous experience as a retail manager or supervisor
- Ability to work a full-time flexible schedule, including morning, night and weekend shifts, and to work overtime as needed
- Active Learning – Quickly process new information, knowledge, and experiences, regularly capitalizing on learning opportunities, and applying new information.
- Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Valid State Driver's License.
