First Student is hiring immediately for a Mechanic in Training for our shop serving SAU 21 Schools!
As a Technician in Training at First Student, you will play an integral role in ensuring the safety of the children who count on us for a ride to and from school in those classic yellow buses while learning about the industry and honing your technical skills.
The hourly wage of $25.00/hr (NOT flat-rate)
ASE incentive upon final placement. $.25/hour for each relevant ASE obtained (we pay for the training materials and exams!)
Monday-Friday 8:00 am-3:30 pm, subject to change to full-time shift as needed

About First Student's Technician in Training Position
At First Student, our technicians perform maintenance to ensure our fleet of Thomas-built buses are safe for road travel. They also use their diagnostic skills to troubleshoot issues needing repair work. As a technician at First Student, your day will include the tasks mentioned above and the following:
Perform routine maintenance and repair work on automotive diesel vehicles (buses, vans, etc.), which adheres to First Student standards. This may include but is not limited to tire maintenance, fulfilling service calls for repair, conducting visual inspections of vehicles, and related work as assigned. Performs work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. All work is performed with a commitment to safety.
Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with minimal supervision on basic maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, and batteries, checking fluid levels, changing fluids and filters, and lubricate components.
Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles, including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately.
Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under direct supervision.
Cleans vehicles as necessary

Must be 18 years of age or older
Basic mechanical aptitude with automotive, diesel, or small engine repairs or equivalent education and experience
Valid driver's license (must also have or be able to get a CDL license when of age or within 6 months)
Basic problem-solving ability
Comfortable using hand tools
Good customer service skills and communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment
Basic computer skills
Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
Mechanics and technicians are subject to DOT drug testing as a safety-sensitive employee. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
