We currently have a vacancy for a Legal Administrative Specialist/Paralegal I to support the Criminal Division at the US Attorney's Office (USAO). The Legal Administrative Specialist / Paralegal I is a Gap Year entry level position, intended as a program for recent college graduates prior to attending law school. The Legal Administrative Specialist will be required to perform the following duties after basic training by the USAO on specific office procedures, software programs and equipment:
- Assist prosecutors and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information. Generally, the legal administrative specialists will scan, load, and index documents into a legal case management database. Performs data entry as needed. Assure documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria and indexing/coding fields. Smaller cases may be paper based, in which case the legal administrative specialist will maintain the paper case file.
- Prepare photo boards, maps, charts and other exhibits required for litigation.
- Assemble trial notebooks for use by prosecutors, judges, defense counsel and witnesses.
- Load electronic version of exhibits and other trial material into case presentation software and ready presentation for court.
- Set up IT and audiovisual equipment for electronic courtroom presentation and run presentation during trial or hearing.
Requirements
A Legal Administrative Specialist/Paralegal I must meet the following qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Attention to detail and the ability to read and follow directions.
- Good oral and written communications skills.
- Must have 1 years' experience in a related field.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to analyze documents to extract selected information.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
