Description

The Environmental Compliance Specialist will report to the Environmental Compliance Manager and help lead the department in Environmental Compliance initiatives, along with implementing and maintaining ongoing compliance throughout all corporate, supply chain, and retail facilities. The Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist partners with other departments to ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Harbor Freight Tools products meet relevant regulations and standards for assigned product categories. The Environmental Compliance Specialist assist with essential Environmental Compliance duties and responsibilities throughout all corporate, supply chain, and retail facilities. The role works closely with key stakeholders in Retail, Supply Chain, Transportation, Legal, Global Sourcing, Imports and Trade Compliance, Quality Assurance, Product Development, and Merchandising to ensure product special handling data is managed properly. This role actively seeks continuous improvement opportunities to de-risk the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies new and existing products for SDS program inclusion and products that may require special handling for storage, transportation, and disposal.        
  • Ensure all corporate, supply chain, and retail SDS documentation is current.
  • Manage SDS storage and uploads to customer facing website.     
  • Manage UL WercSmart account for all products requiring SDS.            
  • Coordinate with Vendor Managers to assist WercSmart product registration.           
  • Register existing products on WercSmart.
  • Maintain accurate and complete Dangerous Goods data on multiple databases used for DC and Retail storage, transportation, managed waste, and reporting.     
  • Assist QA and AR locating SDS for product testing and repair.         
  • Respond to questions from retail facilities regarding, store defect, managed waste, and other environmental compliance related issues.             
  • Participate in Safe Hotline emergency response on-call schedule.  
  • Assist manager with scheduling and tracking managed waste pickups at all facilities.         
  • Assist manager with preparation, submittal and tracking of regulatory filing for licenses, permits and departmental reports.      
  • Assist manager with the maintenance of site-specific environmental compliance information for all retail and supply chain locations.      
  • Support timely completion of environmental reporting requirements.        
  • Support the management and tracking of incoming and out-going environmental compliance documents for existing stores and offices including manifests, permits, HMBPs, etc.

Requirements

Education and Experience
Education Requirements
  • High school or equivalent diploma and 2+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in an environmental-related field,

  • 2+ years of experience in an environmental-related field,

  • Intermediate MS Office Suite skills required

Physical Requirements

  • Use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports.
  • The ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
