The Shift Planning Manager (SPM) supervises associates and manages the day-to-day operations of an assigned area within a distribution center. The Shift Planning Manager will maintain a steady line of communicate with the AGM Ops Managers to support achievement of the operational plan. The position achieves results (operation, financial & service results) through directing and supporting the activities of Associates who perform various distribution center operating functions. He/she leads and supports all facets of labor and equipment planning (all operational departments), waving, and Inbound planning for the shift. The Shift Planning Manager maintains building level planning tools and regularly provides site level reporting to internal and executive leadership. He/she will also interact regularly with cross functional DC, Supply Chain, and Corporate partners to collaboratively achieve win-win solutions to network and companywide challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and lead all aspects of the DC's planning functions, including labor, equipment, inbound, outbound operations, processing and storage capacities, and inventory placement for both retail and direct to consumer on a daily and weekly basis.         
  • Drive improvement and compliance to DC metrics such as fill rate, inventory days on hand, staffing levels, building capacity, zone compliance, and labor hours budget.          
  • Utilize past trends and current forecast to identify risks in staffing levels.        
  • Manage daily waving operations to include label printing and their distribution.   
  • Plan, monitor, appraise and manage performance results.      
  • Identify and explain budget & service level variances, identify corrective actions.
  • Evaluate & recommend process changes to improve efficiencies, safety, etc.     
  • Select, orient, train, coach, counsel and discipline Associates.             
  • Educate and develop Associates to increase their capabilities and job performance as well as to follow and maintain established company, federal, state and local policies and procedures.   
  • Ensure associates attend all training/cross-training on the day and time scheduled and otherwise ensure 100% compliance with equipment operator and cross-training goals.         
  • Communicate values, strategies, objectives, and assigning accountabilities.   
  • Maintain positive and productive continuity with each Associate and their work teams.   
  • Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.         
  • Enforce systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards in accordance with company regulations.         
  • Maintain and keep accurate staff attendance, vacation, personal time off, sickness, funeral, and other attendance standards.
  • Manage operation to meet the financial targets and assigned service levels assigned.     
  • Research, compile, initiate, sort and analyze production performance records and data.     
  • Ensure the work environment is maintained in a clean & safe status.        
  • Ensure associates have the proper tools to perform their duties.        
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, identify needed repairs and ensure that equipment gets repaired in a timely manner.      
  • Evaluate new equipment and techniques for process improvements.      
  • Initiate, lead and participate in special projects.   
  • Be open to new ideas and ways to achieve results.             
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn other areas of the distribution center operations.       
  • Develop managerial and leadership competencies by participating in all company-sponsored education workshops and leadership development training, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional organizations.     
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.      
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Education Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 5 years or more of related experience
  • Or Bachelor's degree and experience supervising production personnel (ideally in Distribution) preferred

Years of Experience
  • Experience (Required) - Minimum 5 years of experience operating in a large-scale distribution environment.
  • Experience in developing daily, weekly or monthly staffing and volume plans.
             
Skills
  • Skills (Required) - Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient with Excel and data analysis processes (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to effectively communicate to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to influence and engage with partners in the organization.
  • Manage multiple priorities to completion.
  • Knowledge of business concepts (including Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement techniques)
  • Knowledge of supervisory & leadership skills
  • Skills (Preferred / Desired) - Expert level experience with Excel.
  • Experience in using SQL queries and processes.
  • Additional Qualifications (behavioral traits, certifications, etc.) - You are highly productive, self-motivated, creative, and focused, and have excellent communication skills. The anticipated salary range for this position is $81,500 – $93,725 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 200 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
