Description

Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Tests and optimizes filter and filtration systems from lab scale to full scale filter testing
  • Uses existing laboratory test systems to generate the data necessary to execute contract SOWs and support HDT product development and manufacturing
  • Works closely with current government customers and other vendors
  • Able to apply engineering principles in fulfilling responsibilities
  • Works independently with various lab equipment and instruments, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations
  • Collaborates with team members, maintaining accurate records, and troubleshooting equipment issues
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risk
  • Receives and follows direction
  • Guides work of intern(s)
  • Embraces initiatives
  • Works professionally with teammates and colleagues
  • Completes assigned tasks on time and budget while meeting technical requirements
  • Orders lab supplies
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and laboratory safety standards
  • Must be available for limited travel

Years Experience

 

    Level of Education

  • 1 to 3 years of experience as technician or equivalent

AS Engineering from accredited school preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Must be able to read, speak and understand English
  • Hands-on experience in research, laboratory process, and operations preferred 
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW preferred
  • Familiarity with gas chromatography preferred
  • Familiarity with Excel required
  • Works independently under supervision of others
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills
  • Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)

 

 Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Work is accomplished in a typical laboratory environment with adequate environmental (heating/cooling) control and engineering controls (fume hoods, emergency eyewash stations, safety showers, etc.).
  • The noise level can vary depending on the equipment being used and the type of experiment being conducted.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, lab coats will be required depending on the type of experiment being conducted.
  • Access to operations and manufacturing areas may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, oils, and fluctuations in temperature

 

Physical Demands

  • Performs all work in accordance with safety and workmanship and good housekeeping specifications
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee alternates between sitting and standing/walking for long periods of time
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required per lab rules

 

Training

  • New employee safety orientation and training on special tools or software required for job performance
