This is a hybrid role based in our St. Louis office, conveniently located in downtown St. Louis next to the iconic Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium. Our Legal Department plays a crucial role in supporting our business units and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide legal counsel and advice to business unit management on legal matters affecting HOK.
  • Review, draft, edit, and negotiate various contracts, including client contracts, subcontracts, vendor agreements, software and technology licenses, non-disclosure agreements, and teaming agreements.
  • Counsel internal clients on contract interpretation, adherence to HOK policy, compliance with procurement regulations, intellectual property/data rights, payment rights, change management, contract disputes, and termination provisions.
  • Anticipate and mitigate legal, regulatory, and compliance risks facing HOK.
  • Assist in developing and recommending the firm's position on various legal issues.
  • Review client contracts for liability and insurance issues; negotiate desired language; and troubleshoot legal issues with internal clients.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the firm's data privacy policies and procedures to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Respond to requests from individuals regarding their personal data.
  • May assist with resolving legal issues or concerns in the areas of human resources, insurance, or professional liability.
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles and contract law.
  • Ability to interpret laws and court decisions as they relate to HOK.
  • Proficiency in preparing a variety of legal documents, including agreements and contracts.
  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and logical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate required.
  • Membership in the State Bar as an Attorney qualified to practice law in one or more states required.
  • 4-6 years of legal experience required, with prior law firm experience preferred.
  • Previous corporate or construction law experience, or experience in an architecture, engineering, or construction firm strongly preferred.
