What are we looking for?

The Consulting Engineer - Functional Safety role offers independent advice on engineering, science and/or other related topics to companies and government organizations. The Consulting Engineer position assists in providing more efficient services to clients and independently conducts on and off-site evaluations to determine specific solutions for each customer.  

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $100K - $150K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

• Independently conduct on and off-site evaluation to customer specific requirements. 
• Research and determine applicability of Functional Safety standards.
• Perform technical assessments, analysis of specifications of projects, design reviews of projects, identifying compliance gaps and assist with implementing necessary solutions.
• Coordinate and lead client meetings/discussions.
• Provide sales support for any and all scoping requirements including direct customer presentations.
• Supply information for quotes such as length of project, resources and samples required, and standards that will be used.
• Provide specialized "expertise" in Functional Safety across various product types, including Machinery, Robotics and Energy Storage.
• Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment, Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
• Assist customers with Functional Safety process and documentation development.
• Identify project needs and sample requirements for effective resource planning and meeting of client's expectations.
• Provide the necessary support during the duration of projects to ensure the needs of the customer are met.
• Perform other work as required.

Who we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• 5+ years directly related experience in fields such as Energy, Battery Storage, Robotics, Automation or Automotive.
• Experience with UL and IEC standards to demonstrate NRTL, CE marking and other regulatory compliance schemes.
• Experience with IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061, ISO 13849, ISO 26262, UL 1998, UL 991, UL 60730 or other functional safety standards.
• Ability to travel, up to 25%
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

This is a remote position; however, applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States.

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

• Mechanical or Electrical engineering degree.
• Advanced degree in engineering.
• Prior project management/design experience.
• PE License.
• Demonstrated experience with global regulatory compliance.
• CFSE® - Certified Functional Safety Expert.
• Electrical, regulatory, safety, compliance experience.
