Geotechnical Field Technician I – Columbus, OH

What are we looking for?

The Geotechnical Field Technician I is responsible for performing a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.

How you'll make an impact at Intertek:

  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and PSI staff to execute field explorations work to project specifications.
  • Performs a variety of assignments that include coordination of field activities with the home office, boring layout, utility clearance,  
  • Prepares subsurface exploration field drilling logs
  • Communicates effectively with client and project teams
  • Works on one or multiple projects at a time
  • May work both in the field and laboratory occasionally
  • Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • 2-year degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction or related degree from an accredited/ABET school is preferred
  • Experience in Geotechnical Drilling Operations preferred
  • 0-2 years' Experience with site subsurface explorations or related activities preferred
  • Must have basic math, calculator, and computer skills
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
  • The ability to read and understand work plans is required
  • Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed
  • Travel 10-20% of time
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30-50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
