PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- With a strong problem-solving skillset, this individual is responsible for leading a team of maintenance technicians, reviewing and prioritizing maintenance work orders, and scheduling equipment maintenance and repairs on Iowa Select Farms facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the maintenance work order system for your region and direct maintenance staff to ensure that repairs are completed timely
- Ensure your technicians are properly trained and adhere to biosecurity protocols.
- Prioritize maintenance items and direct maintenance staff in completing high priority items first.
- Flexibility to pivot when necessary to handle emergency situations that arise, regardless of date and time
- Oversee the maintenance employees' schedule throughout the week and hold maintenance employees accountable if repairs are not made in a timely manner.
- Monitor weekly key performance indicators to ensure all technicians are fully utilized.
- Advise maintenance staff, managers, and service managers when items can be repaired rather than replaced.
- Provide training to maintenance staff, farm managers and service managers; ensuring that repairs are made safely and accurately.
- Advise production management regarding changes to equipment in buildings (retro-fits).
- Establish and maintain tools and equipment inventory levels on maintenance vehicles.
- Monitor vehicle usage by maintenance staff.
- Assist maintenance director, as necessary, in long term capital planning, performance reviews and other items as directed.
- Collaborate with other departments within the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work responsibilities for others
- Maintaining staffing levels needed to meet company goals which can include involvement in interviewing and hiring processes.
- Provides employees, both current and new with updated training on positions that fall under applicable department(s).
- Coordinates with human resources to respond to employee concerns or complaints.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
- Rewarding employees in the form of positive feedback and utilization of company programs when performance in key areas is high.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The environment of this position will change daily pending weekly schedule
- This position will have duties in all facilities of Iowa Select Farms so employee will need to be comfortable working in and being exposed to all facility environments
- This position may require some tasks to be performed in outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.
- The environment you will be working will have nuisance levels of gasses and dust, particularly in the winter months
PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- This is a full-time position that will require a minimum of 40 hours per week
- Expected days and hours of operation include day-shift hours Monday-Fridays
- Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
- Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges
TRAVEL
- Regular travel will be required for this position which entails the utilization of a company vehicle
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience leading a team of maintenance technicians
- Strong background in electrical, plumbing, framing, and concrete are needed for success.
- Previous experience in pork production or related industry is preferred.
