Kamehameha Schools Kāpalama is seeking an Athletic Facilities Supervisor to support our Athletics Department, which oversees more than 30 sports programs for K-12. The Athletic Facilities Supervisor will support the Recreational Facilities and Equipment Manager and oversee Athletic Utility Workers in maintaining our various athletics facilities. This position will focus on maintenance of athletic facilities including, but not limited to, Kūnuiākea Field (the stadium), fields, and tennis courts and set-up & breakdown of equipment for sporting events to ensure safe use of facilities.

 

The ideal candidate is a hardworking, resilient, team player with the capacity to lead and take initiative while implementing forward-thinking in uplifting our various athletic facilities. Strong communication skills are required, as this position will work with the Recreational Facilities and Equipment Manager, Athletic Utility Workers,  Athletic Directors, coaches, administrators, athletic support staff, and various facilities users.

 

Base working hours are 10am - 6pm, but will require flexibility in schedule based on relevant events. This position will take place both outdoors and indoors for administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, reviewing timesheets, maintaining daily usage calendars, etc. and may require occasional travel. 

Job Summary

Assists Athletics Administration to plan and coordinate services to support K-12 educational, athletic, and recreational programs. Ensure events held at campus athletic and recreational facilities meet high quality standards. Directly manages the program and ensure athletic staff meet continuing education/training standards and maintain required certifications. Supervise or provide guidance to athletic utility staff to perform daily tasks, needed to deliver a high-quality experience for physical education teachers, athletic coaches, students, recreational users, and visitors. 

Essential Responsibilities

Safety

  • Ensures facilities users are aware of safety rules for facilities and equipment.
  • Directly manages the program to ensure all staff meet continuing education standards and maintain required certifications.
  • Develops and delivers facilities and equipment safety training.
  • Assesses planned event activities in advance to identify potential risks and hazards, and develops supervision and risk mitigation plans, and trains and directs KS employees accordingly.
  • Instructs and trains others in proper risk assessment and safe work practices. 
  • Inspects facilities and equipment to identify and correct unsafe conditions. 

Recreational Facilities

  • Supervises or provides guidance to staff who directly manage designated facilities.
  • Reviews Facility Use Requests and prioritizes in accordance with KS mission and policies, campus use guidelines, and community benefit; resolves conflicts to maximize beneficial use of KS assets.
  • Provides athletic/recreation-related services off-campus as needed to support KS programs when they occur in other locations.
  • Prioritizes and manages the overall events calendar to maximize facility use and accommodate a high percentage of user requests while taking into account input from stakeholders who utilize facilities.
  • Supports the manager's efforts to lead recreational facilities staff to perform as a team with other campus groups that are involved in the planning and execution of well-coordinated events.
  • Ensures that recreational facilities staff perform their kuleana to cover full schedule of activities, such as daily maintenance and providing services to clients and recreational facilities users.
  • Provide support with the FUR (facilities use request) system to ensure event calendars for the stadium and field are kept up to date. 
  • Assess situations in the facilities and be able to fix minor issues, escalating as needed to the manager for approval to contact approved contractors if the issue cannot be resolved by KS. 

Administrative

  • Proactively inspects areas and work to identify risks and initiates correction of safety hazards or other deficiencies without direction.
  • Participates in campus and department events and activities as scheduled.
  • Complies with KS and department policies.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives and conflict resolutions.
  • Actively directs, coaches and manages performance of direct reports.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in related industry.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver License

  • Able to lead and guide others in the performance of their work.
  • Ability to read and comprehend training materials to instruct others on the safe and correct use of facilities and equipment.

  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to work flexible schedules to accommodate after-hours school-related functions and activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid/CPR training.
  • Good manual skills to repair equipment (volleyball nets, etc.).
  • Experience working with students, preferably in a recreational/athletic environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks and grasp light/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally write by hand, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Often walk, stand, twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, work above shoulder, and grasp forcefully.
  • May involve exposure to extreme temperatures and contact with hazardous materials, dust, dirt, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, etc.

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
