Kamehameha Schools is searching for a Compensation Consultant* to join our Human Resources division.
Our ideal candidate will have...
4+ years of HR generalist or business partner background within mid to large organizations (SHRM-CP, PHR, or CCP a plus),
Experience consulting with organizational leaders,
An understanding of organizational design and job architecture,
An interest in data analysis.
*Candidates may also be hired as either a Compensation Analyst or Senior Compensation Consultant based on skill and experience level and organizational need.
This is a Hybrid position which provides work from home flexibility on an approval basis, with 2 days/week onsite at our Kawaiaha'o Plaza location.
Kamehameha Schools employs roughly 4,000 regular and temporary staff across three (3) K-12 Campuses, 30 Preschools, and various Enterprise divisions (spanning everywhere from Administration to Investment Management and Commercial Real Estate). Job Summary
The Compensation Consultant plays a critical role in the development, implementation, and execution of compensation programs, policies, and practices that strategically align with the organization's goals and objectives. This position provides guidance and consultation to leaders and HR partners on job architecture, organizational design, and pay structure to ensure market-based compensation practices. The consultant administers various pay programs, including market and merit reviews, and conducts operational tasks such as external market survey participation, job analysis, and ensures adherence to pay policies, procedures and practices. This role requires knowledge of local and federal labor laws and strategic HR management practices, focusing on utilizing compensation as a strategic lever to meet business and people needs.
Essential Responsibilities
Workforce Planning and Organizational Design
- Collaborate with organization leaders and HR partners to develop and maintain job architecture frameworks, including job families, levels, and career paths.
- Consult with clients to design jobs that align with business needs and organizational structure
- Analyze internal and external factors to conduct job evaluations and ensure consistency in job classification, leveling, and grading across the organization.
- Ensure job descriptions are accurate, up-to-date, and reflect the responsibilities and requirements of the role.
Partnership, Guidance, and Consultation
- Provide expert advice and consultation to leaders and HR partners on compensation-related matters.
- Assist in the development and implementation of compensation policies, procedures and practices.
- Educate and train managers and HR partners on compensation laws, practices, and principles.
- Contribute to projects related to compensation systems, process improvements, and workforce compensation strategies.
- Proactively partner with key stakeholders to plan and manage the change process related to compensation programs, ensuring cross-functional alignment and communication.
Market-Based Compensation Practices
- Conduct ongoing market research and participate in compensation surveys to gather data on competitive compensation practices and emerging trends.
- Analyze market data to ensure the organization's compensation practices are market-competitive and aligned with internal pay strategies.
- Determine appropriate pay ranges for jobs based on KS' market-based compensation strategy.
Pay Structure Design
- Assist in the development and maintenance of pay structures that support the organization's people and compensation philosophies and business objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pay structures and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
- Participate in the development, administration and maintenance of compensation-related programs, policies, and procedures while ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws/regulatory requirements and alignment with internal policies, procedures and culture.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in Human Resources, Compensation or relevant leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of employment and labor laws and regulations related to compensation and job design.
- Proficient in applying theories and principles of internal and external market analysis.
- Deep understanding of the broader business implications of decisions.
- Experience identifying and resolving systemic issues related to workforce planning, job design or compensation analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to communicate and prepare comprehensive concepts, strategies and practices through formal and informal presentations and documents.
- Experience guiding and consulting with individuals and leaders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills needed to review statistical results to make practical and meaningful recommendations.
- Working knowledge of technology and proficiency in the use of HR Systems (Workday preferred), spreadsheet, word processing, data management, and presentation applications.
- Excellent organization, detail-orientation, and time management skills to manage competing priorities.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team on key initiatives and daily operational tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field
- Active SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification highly preferred.
- Active Certified Compensation Professional by WorldatWork.
- Experience in HRIS systems such as Workday or UKG and compensation systems such as BetterComp or Market Pay.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and other data analysis tools.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions (including Environmental Conditions)
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in nonstandard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.
