Kamehameha Schools is currently looking for a Director of Enterprise Security. This position can be based on Oahu, Maui or Hawai'i. This position will partner with our campus security leadership, and oversee preschool, 'aina Pauahi and KS office locations.

Our ideal candidate will have 15+ years of law enforcement and/or security experience and 5+ years of managing security/law enforcement teams.

There is no relocation assistance budgeted for this position.

Job Summary

Subject matter expert who advises, coordinates and/or collaborates across all KS security functions (K-12 Campuses, KS Preschools, KS Offices, ʻĀina Pauahi Lands) to support and provide security knowledge and expertise to ensure the safety of staff and students is the priority.  Responsible for establishing a program providing security resources and procedures for KS Preschools, enterprise offices, and lands.  A strategic thinker with extensive experience in security management, risk assessment, and program development to establish and/or support implementation of related security resources or procedures (e.g. security, facilities use, violence intervention, surveillance, communication systems, etc.). Has a proactive approach to problem-solving to support prevention and response to security incidents. Provides recommendations and reports to the KS executive leadership team as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a security safety program for the KS network of preschools that will include managing KS staff and/or external vendors to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with organizational leaders to develop and oversee an enterprise security safety program that covers our K-12 campuses, KS Offices , and ʻĀina Pauahi lands.
  • Work with K-12 Campus Security operations to collaborate and support the daily operations of K-12 campuses, KS Offices , and ʻĀina Pauahi lands.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish security policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and deliver security training programs and awareness campaigns to educate staff and stakeholders on security risks, procedures, and best practices.
  • Assists KS sites with development, implementation, and enforcement of enterprise and site-based security related procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop risk mitigation strategies.  Provides advice as needed on investigative procedures for all security incidents on campus including contact with legal agencies and review of incident reports.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, security vendors, and community partners.
  • Represents KS at community and governmental meetings where security matters are discussed. Serves and is a regular member on enterprise and site-specific safety related meetings.
  • Oversees the enterprise violence intervention team (VIT), supports other enterprise safety duties as needed and works with KS Legal and Enterprise Safety teams closely.
  • Monitor and analyze security trends, emerging threats, and industry developments to enhance security measures and protocols.  
  • Available to support and advise on all KS emergencies and crisis situations including development of related procedures.  

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Security Services, Criminal Investigation or closely related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in security or police related work.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Proven experience in procedures and practices in investigations and reporting on incidents and accidents.
  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of effective security plan(s) for one or more locations.
  • Proven experience in emergency management procedures and practices as well as policy development and implementation.
  • Proven experience in developing training policies, procedures and implementation of such to include instruction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills to deal effectively with various audiences (faculty, parents, staff, students, general public, etc.).
  • Good working knowledge of standard security procedures and requirements.
  • Proven ability to operate and utilize 2-way radio communications and knowledge of procedures in accordance with best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR with AED.
  • Previous work experience in a public emergency responder agency at a senior command level.
  • Knowledge of the Hawaii Revised Statutes.
  • Knowledge of fire safety code and practice.
  • Strong working knowledge of HIOSH, DOT, PUC, ADA, EPA regulations and codes and related requirements.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)   

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but requires on-call availability 24/7, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to respond to urgent or emergency situations as needed.
