Job Summary
Senior-level campus administrator responsible for administrative oversight for building and implementing a comprehensive personalized HCBE competency-based learning ecosystem for E Ola! including learner growth and evaluation systems and related professional development. Co-leads strategic planning and implementation and reporting. Works with campus executive and senior leaders to plan, implement, monitor and assess the short- and long-range strategic direction of the learning and teaching program. Works collaboratively with campus and instructional leaders to develop strategic priorities including the implementation and oversight of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure K-12 alignment. Provides leadership, strategic planning, oversight, and supervision of K-12 learner outcomes, teacher evaluation, and professional development. In the absence of the Associate Head of School, is responsible for designated responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership, Strategy and Planning
- Serves as a member of the campus executive and senior leadership teams.
- Leads the design and implementation of a comprehensive personalized HCBE competency-based learning ecosystem for E Ola!
- Provides administrative oversight for all-school tasks which are related to curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Supports the implementation of research-based and culture-based instructional design and strategies.
- Provides leadership in design, direction and implementation of the K-12 teacher growth process and professional development activities aligned to campus priorities. Including identifying training/learning needs and setting professional development priorities.
- In partnership with principals and other instructional leaders, builds agreements and resources for an effective teacher evaluation and growth system. This includes leading collaborative processes for defining teacher competencies and expectations, building leadership capacity for effective teacher supervision, and ensuring high-quality data, including student voice and outcomes, is a part of teacher evaluation and learning.
- Directly supervises staff and provides supervisory oversight for various positions and programs for the campus. Evaluates selected campus positions, including key positions supporting campus-wide learning and teaching initiatives. Supervises and oversees the goal-setting work and may set campus, unit or teacher learning and achievement goals.
- Facilitates and models a cohesive learning community to support campus and school leaders to improve student achievement and the 21st century ‘ōiwi learner and models a high level of instructional leadership that enhances effective instruction and high student achievement.
- Drafts annual strategic plan and quarterly and annual reports for learning and teaching initiatives and related areas and reports progress and outcomes to multiple audiences including education group and enterprise leadership.
- Leads the development, monitoring and evaluation of data informed, research-based and integrated processes to guide recommendations, decision-making, and implementation of short- and long-term plans for learning and teaching and related areas. Assists in conducting due diligence that includes thorough review and critique of all division learning and teaching action plans and other documents for alignment to campus priorities and goals.
- Leads the development, assessment, and the refinement of instructional practices based on data for campus measures, targets and strategies.
- Leads the collection, analysis and use of student assessment and achievement data, stakeholder perception data, and other survey results to drive enhancements or changes to each division's direction to meet whole-school objectives and targets.
- Communicates and reports responsibly and consistently to senior leadership and various stakeholders and collaborators.
- Assists with ensuring decision making and conducting business complies with organizational regulatory and policy requirements.
- Key contributor, designer, and editor of communication about campus strategic priorities, measures, and programming to CEO, Enterprise leaders, Trustees and other groups.
- Assists in leading the cultivation, fostering, design, and implementation of research-based programming; works collaboratively with other campus and community education leaders to maximize the effectiveness of the campus.
- Leads and supports the school's WASC/HAIS accreditation process and the implementation of K-12 WASC action plans to improve program effectiveness, strategic goal achievement and program improvement program effectiveness. May chair academic administrative searches.
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment System
- In partnership with principals and other instructional leaders, provides administration oversight to all campus initiatives related to curriculum, instruction and assessment for a personalized HCBE competency-based learning.
- Designs, develops and implements the K-12 curriculum and assessment initiatives for the campus. Guides the vertical and horizontal articulation of curriculum campus-wide to ensure K-12 alignment.
- Responsible for the design and delivery of all curricula, assessment, program and related educational program functions for the campus system including the piloting, implementation, alignment, and timing and sequence of program innovation and change.
- Leads the evaluation and K-12 alignment of assessment plans to include data analyses and utilization in decision-making at all levels.
- Ensures the infusion of world class, Hawaiian culture-based education into the design and delivery of the campus' curriculum. Ensures that curriculum is predicated on the results of formative and summative student assessment results.
- Monitors and analyzes the results of student assessments to ensure individual student progress toward established campus academic achievement goals and targets.
Development and Capacity Building
- Provides consultation to principals to develop tools and processes to monitor instructional practice.
- Responsible for ensuring coherent, focused professional development to improve teacher instructional skills and behaviors as measured by improvement in student learning.
- Designs, develops and implements the K-12 curriculum and assessment initiatives for the campus.
- Ensures K-12 integration and alignment in campus professional development, for congruency with campus goals and priorities.
- Promotes among students, faculty and staff, the learning of the Hawaiian language, history, culture and values as an Integral part of Kamehameha Schools.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of directly related education administration experience.
- Hawaiian cultural commitment: Willingness to learn and exhibit a commitment to an improved, high-quality education system for Native Hawaiian learners. Must be able to understand and support the importance of revitalizing and promoting Hawaiian cultural vibrancy in achieving KS' mission and KS' commitment to Hawaiian cultural vibrancy among its leadership, staff and learners' system wide. Appreciation for Native Hawaiian culture and language perpetuation.
- Leadership: Focus on establishing priorities to achieve early, meaningful and sustainable school improvement. Lead effective transformation of areas of oversight. Motivate and inspire others to create and sustain world class support services for our students in areas of assigned responsibility. Leads with flexibility, transparency, and the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality. Collaborative leadership style with superior communication and listening skills. Strategic and reflective thinker who uses inclusive approaches to decision making. Naturally outgoing leader able to adjust to various audiences and connect with multiple constituencies. Ability to maintain composure, tact, sensitivity and flexibility during peak periods and crisis intervention situations. High level of integrity to handle the highly confidential information regularly seen and discussed.
- Management: History of excellence working in public and/or independent school education. Determine how best to track and assess progress and success. Apply strategies for communicating one's vision to the multiple stakeholders in the school and community. Deliver high quality products, projects, programs and services that are cost-effective, on budget and on time. Exceptional interpersonal skills, a collaborative yet clear and decisive leadership style, high energy, lively intelligence, and a good sense of
humor. Detail oriented and highly organized leader with proactive and balanced problem-solving skills. Willing to make difficult decisions or providing direct and honest feedback in a positive and constructive manner. Possess a contagious positive attitude
and the ability to motivate others. Team builder who inspires both staff and students. Willing and available to work varied hours, including evening events and travel on a regular basis both within and out of state as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work with diverse learners and communities.
- Classroom teaching experience.
- Experience working in Native Hawaiian communities, with the Department of Education, and other Hawaiian agencies and organizations.
- Strong computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications; familiarity with student information management systems.
- Familiarity with needs and resources for schools and communities.
- Knowledge of KS mission, strategic plan, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
- School Administration Certification or License.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally stand and walk, write by hand, and lift, carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands and out of state to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.
