Job Summary

Provides executive level leadership and strategy development to advance KS reputation and strategic position in alignment with KS mission, vision, and goals. Ensures the successful implementation of special initiatives by building and managing key external partnerships and formulating and driving innovative tactics for transformative results, while working closely across ‘Āina Pauahi functional divisions and KS business lines.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership, Consultation, and Advisement

  • Develop keen understanding of KS strategies, priorities, and context.
  • Synthesize complex data and information to inform opportunities and strategies.
  • Identify and develop critical partnerships and relationships to implement strategies that advance KS objectives and priorities.

Project Leadership and Management

  • Organizes, leads and supervises multi-disciplinary project teams including both internal and external partners.
  • Provides expert guidance and facilitation to enable effective decision making among in collaborative cross-functional projects.
  • Influences internal and external stakeholders through shared goals, communication, information sharing and transparency.
  • Fosters and maintains a high performing environment based on teamwork, commitment, accountability, cooperation, collaboration, and direct, timely feedback.
  • Presents business/financial/community/strategic information in support of recommendations to decision-makers at all levels.
  • Coordinates with consultants, City, State, Federal agencies, and stakeholders as needed for the execution of special initiatives, including permitting and entitlements.

Business and Community Development

  • Provides strategic thought partnership and expert guidance to executives and senior management to identify and cultivate collaborations among organizations with similar values and commitment to serve Native Hawaiians.
  • Work with executive leadership on external relations strategy and partnerships that can achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes that further the influence, strategic positioning, reputation and impact of KS, support Vision 2040 and uplift KS, Native Hawaiians, and Hawai'i to the national and global stage.
  • Leverages experience, networks, and connections to build and advance KS' networks and partnerships and related internal capacity.
  • Leads and/or participates in community consultation strategies for planning and development needs.
  • Works with regional stakeholders to identify appropriate approach, timing, and methodology of consulting stakeholders.
  • Attend key community meetings to engage with various external groups (e.g. neighborhood boards, public officials, business associations, etc).

Financial Management and Reporting and Market Intelligence

  • Oversees the development of appropriate project budgets
  • Reviews and approves appropriate budget requests. Manages KS' interest in the relationship with KS' development partners including review, analysis and recommendations to:
    • Business plans and alterations
    • All financial forecasts and results
    • Execution strategies
  • Reports on partner activities and fulfills KS' obligations under partnerships.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, planning, or related field
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in partnership development, external relations strategies, or management consulting.
  • Minimum 10 years of executive management experience.
  • Familiarity and understanding of government and legislative processes and strategic insight on gaining appropriate government support.
  • Experience with diverse land asset management, land/real estate planning, and community development.
  • Experience leading large scale, multi-faceted projects.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, including presentation, oral communication and writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to analyze and conceptualize, and to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and with highly confidential information.
  • In-depth consulting, business, and government relations knowledge aligned to business objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and handle complex, multiple, simultaneous projects and meet established timelines and deadlines.
  • Strong project management, analysis and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Superior research skills and resourcefulness to draw logical conclusions.
  • Ability to understand processes and identify common cause effect impacting a process and implement process improvements
  • Understand and have demonstrated proficiency in strategic planning, strategic management, performance management and reporting systems.
  • Good software skills in customary office applications e.g. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), enterprise systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, public administration, planning, or other relevant field.
  • Experience establishing local, national, and global presence or partnerships.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Based on the compensation range provided below, salaries are commensurate with job-related experience, skills and competencies, education, internal equity, length of work year, and other organizational needs.
