Kamehameha Schools is seeking a Music Assistant to support our Kapalama campus. This is a part time temporary position and requires shifts that include weekends and evenings. Attendance at Sunday Services is expected as part of the position requirement. Additional hours for the position will vary between day and evening hours. We are looking for someone with 1-2 years of experience working in a music production and other similar disciplines. This person would be responsible for designing, planning, setting up, and leading the music program for Sunday Services at Bishop Memorial. Candidates should have experience with directing a music team and overseeing students.  Bachelor's degree and music chapel services experience is strongly preferred. 

Job Summary

Plans, directs, implements and organizes musical, set design, and/or costume design aspects of a theatre/musical school production.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, implements and organizes musical, set design and/or costume design aspects of a theatre/musical school production.  Directs, delegates and monitors the completion of tasks by student leaders, staff, vendors, sectional teachers; provides direction for staff.
  • Under the guidance of the production director, supports, implements and manages various tasks related to the school production. Trains subordinates, faculty, students and staff in the proper use and care of facility.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum six (6) months directly related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with faculty, staff and outside groups.
  • Experience working in a theatre / event / production venue.
  • Excellent working knowledge of theatre/arena lighting and sound systems.
  • Knowledge of theatre stage rigging, sound engineering, event lighting etc.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and adjusts to changing situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with KS organization including internal policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated oral and written correspondence.
  • Knowledge of & sensitivity to Hawaiian culture & Christian values.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks and grasp light/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach/work about shoulder, grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in an office environment but the purpose of the work may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.
