The Associate Administrator of Provider Engagement and Network Development directly serves as the representative between the health system, the community, and referring agencies. The Associate Administrator of Provider Engagement and Network Development is solely responsible for creating demand for health system services through the effective application of ethical sales and marketing principles methods. The new Associate Administrator will present a positive and professional public image of Keck Medicine of USC within the community. The individual will be responsible for the implementing the health systems strategic sales plan and enhancing the health system's brand/image as well as demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication in a challenging environment.

The Associate Administrator is a deal maker and self-starter who develops and wins new business in a complex regional and state and national marketplace while utilizing technology solutions to achieve departmental and health system goals. Working with energy, drive and dedication to overcome obstacles to achieve your goals. Able to take ownership and encourage others to make a positive impact. Additionally, it is important to have superb interpersonal skills and can establish relationships and neutralize conflict with colleagues, clients, and others at any level inside and outside your organization.

This position is a leadership role and part of the Managed Care and Contracting Organization. The new Associate Administrator will be responsible for leading and developing the Payor/Provider Engagement and Network Development cycle through collaboration with key stakeholder departments such as finance, quality teams, strategy teams and departmental Chairs and others as required. This individual will drive new and incremental revenue by prospecting, acquiring, and developing new business relationships with payors and community physicians. Will interact with new and current payors and providers, gain referrals from them, and form strong trust relationships that open doors and closes deals. Important to maintain an extensive knowledge of current local, statewide, and national market conditions while also monitoring current penetration of services and solutions.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and oversee execution of Provider Engagement & Network Development strategies. Monitors and adjusts strategy implementation as needed to achieve desire goals.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that Provider Engagement & Network Development activities are linked appropriately to other applicable areas of the organization.
  • Leadership: Participates in annual organizational goal planning. Develops high performing teams. Skilled communicator to diverse audience including but not limited to employees, executive staff, payors, risk based organizations, providers vendors, board members, donors, etc. Timely response to inquiries; submission of required reports; documents, etc. Provides analysis and recommendations for operational and financial improvements. Engages in self-development and learning. Behaves with confidence, courtesy and positivity.
  • Guide network engagement and outreach strategies to ensure provider and network growth and retention.
  • Build and maintain access to key business decision makers and generate C-level contacts by networking across the payor and provider marketplace.
  • Understand the needs of your partners and marshal the right resources with direct authority.
  • Meet with potential payors and providers to grow, maintain, and demonstrate relationships.
  • Use detailed, comprehensive industry knowledge and experience to develop and support project strategies and advise and support team members and project partners.
  • Travel to your development prospect sites as needed.
  • People: Effectively manages employees including setting performance expectations, coaching, mentoring, providing development opportunities and fostering high functioning collaboration among employees. Ensures meaningful and ongoing training, and education. Selects new employees for hire based on skills, competency and fit. Strong-interpersonal; relationship skills. Promotes teamwork and collaborative environment.
  • Resource Stewardship: Manages daily operating expenses per budget. Participates in annual budget planning with executive and finance teams. Participates in annual capital needs review; prioritization and spending.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive payer experience in network development and payor/provider relations
  • Previewing, identifying, and providing fast, effective solutions to unforeseen circumstances
  • Agility to respond to new situations by modifying your performance & adopting new skills and abilities.
  • Strong prescriptive sales principles and practices
  • Crafting and positioning business results-oriented propositions
  • Able to be a trusted advisor in addressing our departmental chair strategic business needs and goals.
  • Persuasive communication skills, including presenting on general and industry-specific topics.
  • Experience in network development, relationship building & advanced closure, and in driving sales in a solutions-selling environment at the C-suite level.
  • Prior marketing and/or sales experience within a health system setting preferred
  • Minimum Ten (10) years payor experience in network development and payor/provider relationships
  • Minimum seven (7) years documented experience in referral development, account management, sales growth, and physician relationships preferred. Prior marketing and/or sales experience within a health system setting preferred.
  • TPA experience is not required but will hold greater consideration.
  • Prefer knowledge of the greater Southern California region along with statewide and national knowledge.
  • Must possess demonstrated business development concepts, sales abilities, competency in computer usage, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in application of sales and marketing principles; creativity and flexibility; skills in data collection analysis and interpretation; solid awareness to deadlines; and customer service skills.
  • Business development experience

Candidate Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.


Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $191,360.00 - $315,744.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
