Analytical Chemist
Kelly Science and Clinical is seekingan Analytical Chemist for our client a leading Medical Device company in Rochester, New York. Schedule: On-site Monday through Friday day shift
Length of assignment: Until the end of 2025
Pay $26-31 an hour
- Responsibilities:
- Provide routine sample analysis (e.g., FTIR, wettability) for a mix of samples in response to daily changes in priorities.
- Analyze materials using techniques including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, gravimetric extractables, and contact angle measurements.
- Contribute to R&D projects and participate in problem-solving throughout product lifecycles (development, pilot, and mature manufacturing).
- Interpret complex datasets collected across multiple techniques to provide an understanding of surface properties.
- Independently operate analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, etc., to generate data.
- Record and report all lab data as per approved procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze and critique results, noting significant deviations from expected results.
- Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation.
- Ensure all work is performed and documented in accordance with existing company policies, procedures, current Good Manufacturing Practices, and health and safety requirements.
- Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Chemistry, Plastics, Polymer Science, or Materials Engineering/Science with 1-5 years of experience and a focus on spectroscopy and/or surface analysis of materials.
- Knowledge of vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR and Raman) including data acquisition techniques and analysis methods.
- Hands-on chemical lab and analytical chemistry experience including strong record-keeping skills (hardcopy and electronic filing).
- Creative and effective problem-solving skills for varied issues throughout product lifecycles and the ability to apply scientific principles to a broad range of technical assignments.
- Willingness to support a wide range of customers from R&D to plant-level problem solving.
- Proficient computer skills, use of MS Office software, database management, and electronic notebooks.
- Strong writing skills.
- Experience with chromatography a plus.
- Experience with biomedical research and development, and biocompatibility of medical devices a plus.
