CNC Machinist II Direct Hire– 2nd Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
Pay Range: $24.00–$29.00 per hour DOE
Shift Differential: Additional $1.00/hour for 2nd shift Summary / Objective:
CNC Machinist II is responsible for producing precision-machined parts by setting up and operating multi-axis CNC milling machines. This role ensures quality and safety standards are met, maintains accurate production records, and performs routine equipment maintenance. The CNC Machinist II is a skilled technical contributor who demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities, advanced machining knowledge, and the capability to mentor junior machinists. Key Responsibilities:
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and operate one or more multi-axis CNC milling machines using blueprints, process sheets, and work orders.
- Install and adjust tooling, collets, bushings, attachments, vices, gears, and other machine components.
- Load material into feed mechanisms and verify proper positioning before machining.
- Enter and verify machine instructions, including zero points, offsets, tool registers, and compensation values.
- Prove out part programs and adjust settings to ensure accurate machining.
- Obtain first-piece approval from Quality Assurance before production runs.
- Use micrometers, calipers, verniers, gauges, and other precision inspection tools to verify parts at defined intervals.
- Compare part dimensions to blueprint specifications, GD&T requirements, and documented processes.
- Record inspection data and maintain accurate documentation for every job.
- Diagnose, analyze, and resolve machining issues efficiently.
- Monitor tooling for wear or breakage and replace tools as needed to maintain accuracy.
- Detect and correct malfunctions by adjusting controls, modifying offsets, or reprogramming operations.
- Verify part counts and reconcile them with job traveler documentation.
- Complete production reports, quality logs, and shift communication entries.
- Maintain continuity between shifts by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and follow manufacturer guidelines for care and troubleshooting.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, PPE guidelines, and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and practice strong housekeeping habits.
- Train and support new CNC Machinists as needed.
- Apply knowledge and skills learned through training in a consistent, quality-driven manner.
- Perform secondary operations such as deburring during machine cycles.
- Support other production tasks as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Technical school, BOCES, or high school diploma required.
- Minimum consistent 2 years' experience in the setup and operation of CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and GD&T specifications.
- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, verniers, and precision gauges.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and shop math skills (basic math, geometry, trigonometry).
- Excellent attention to detail, quality focus, and problem-solving ability.
- Reliable work ethic with strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to walk, stand, and remain on feet for extended periods.
- Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to handle materials and machine components safely.
